Description My final for the Wilton Fondant and Gumpaste course. The orchids were not part of class, I did them on my own with the intructions in the Wilton Gumpaste Flowers book. Torted 8" double chocolate fudge cake. Homemade chocolate fondant made using Hershey's Special Dark cocoa powder. Homemade marshmallow kahlua fondant for ribbon and ball decorations and covering the presentation board. All flowers and leaves made with gumpaste with a small bit of fondant mixed in. The orchids were very fragile and only 6 of the dozen I made survived. This was anticipated though, which is why I made double what I thought I might need. Pink orchids were based on the one I photographed in Atlanta here: [link] Carnations and fantasy flower at the cake center were learned in class.

Thank you! I am happy with it. I'm bringing to to Corvin and Anne's on Saturday when I help them move. The thing about fondant? It will preserve a cake freshly for considerably longer than a cake you just frost with buttercream, and there is nothing in fondant that can "go bad". So as long as you keep it in a cool, dry place, you can keep it for a few extra days before cutting.

Wow! I took a Wilton course once [the basic stuff and making flowers], but my stuff wasn't nearly as good. Your cake skills are amazing.

Thank you. I have been playing with cake stuff for a long time, but had never taken the classes. I've learned so much!
