Description Next in the KR series we have from the Godzilla films, Anguirus! Anguirus is rather unique as he is a carnivorous ankylosaur who burrows. He is also primarily quadrapedal and is quite agile. Keeping all this in mind I steered away from the typical redesign for this guy which is heavy on the ankylosaur and instead went with the kaprosuchus or boar crocodile for my base model. The boar croc was a prehistoric croc with huge tusks that hunted on land by galloping after prey. So now my design is fast and agile. After that I included armadillo into the mix for a flexible shell (as Anguirus has been known to "stand up" to fight) and digging claws (which would also be good for close combat). Add in some ankylosaur spines and heavy club like tail (much more effective than his long skinny one). Lastly there is some rhinoceros plating for added protection along the flanks and we are done.

Some may note the length and direction of the spines on my version. To me this made more sense for a burrowing monster. Sure movie Anguirus has th raw power to burrow even with his oversized, jutting out everywhere spines but I think my design us more effective for moving forward through the earth...backing up would be a pain though, lol. I thought this guy would be boring to do as so many people have seemed to cover every other design possiblity for him. But thanks to the Boar Croc I think Ive hit upon something unique and it was certainly fun to do.

I love all your kaiju design and Anguirus is my absolute favourite. Giving him a crocodilian look really adds to the realism factor of the character and the idea of this could or did exist. With the Monsterverse giving kaiju more realistic and prehistoric depiction, if Anguirus is every added (here’s hoping) I want him to look exactly like this.Β

Thanks for the high praise. The more I learn of these earth bound prehistoric crocs, the more I like the idea myself.

Again, awesome design. I think Anguirus himself would be impressed.

My anguirus is a omnivore like triceratops. Great drawing

Kaijukid23 In reply to MatoosaurusRex [2014-06-29 07:54:28 +0000 UTC]

I thing a kaiju need to be an omnivore to sustain their mass. They even should be able to devour inorganic materials. Like Godzilla, for example, he's a well known radiovore, but it ever shown to hunts whales

Triceratops ate meat and plants? And thanks for the compliment.

BestTitanosaurus In reply to Bracey100 [2014-08-21 04:29:59 +0000 UTC]

No. He just doesn't know his dinosaurs. Trikes ate plants. They had beaks, instead of teeth, just a fun fact.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Bracey100 In reply to BestTitanosaurus [2014-08-22 03:39:09 +0000 UTC]

No worries and while they did have a beak they also had teeth for grinding plant matter way in the back of their mouths.

"TriceratopsΒ had a battery of teeth which were shed and replaced over their lifetime like a prehistoric conveyor belt system. The tops of their teeth formed a continuous surface, which acted as a pair of giant prehistoric scissors - perfect for cutting vegetation."Β

Nice revamp on one of my favorite kaijus. It has a very cool look and actually quit strong but also very mobile and yeah, that tail would do a much better job that Anguirus's original tail. And very interesting that you used Kaprosuchus as a base for him, a beast I always found a totally bad mean looking one ( I guess he also appeared in a ,,Primeval" episode, right ? ).
Still, really cool design !

Ive only seen the first 2 seasons of Primeval, I discovered Kapro in an issue of National Geographic. I wanted to get away from the ankylosaur look that others often go for with Anguirus and do something that I felt fit the spirit of him better.Β
