I like Evangelion.Just for fun, spent over a few lunch breaks. Just watched the second movie last night, so was in the mood for finishing this up.

Even through 2.0 is a piece of shit, that art looks interesting. But i must ask, why Eva 11? This is some kind of hybrid of 01 and 02? Do you realize that evas from 06 up to 13 are Mass Produced, right? (or 07 up to 14, if taking rebuild terms)
Btw. Characters look kinda dull, don't know if it's intentional.

Character development degeneration. Cutting off important scenes (and don't even try to justify this by movie screen time - they have time to put inside a whole freaking cooking contest). Crappy CG fighting scenes. Awful climax. Rei and Shinji relationship (when the fact that they couldn't develop one was the fucking key point of the original). Lack of Gaghiel, Israfel, Sandalphon, Matariel and Leliel. And many many more about which i forgot.

Character development degeneration
Yeah, here the character's relationships move too fast-that I will blame on the movie time- and the 'love' relationship between Shinji and Rei is too blatant. Asuka doesn't speak German or have any reference anything about her past and I feel overall there isn't enough subtlety in the characters.
I just can't agree with the 'crappy CG fights' The fight that introduced Asuka was kinda lame but I thought the others were top-notch. The Sahaquiel 'fight' was incredible.
Awful Climax
I really miss the Eva awakening, now its Shinji, WTH? Over done love story ending and unfitting music.
Cutting off important scenes. . . Lack of Gaghiel, Israfel, Sandalphon, Matariel and Leliel.
I miss those angels too, and many of the revelations/development parts. These 'train' scenes aren't doing it for me yet.
Overall I've found the movie inferior to the show because of some of the reasons you've mentioned, but I'm waiting for the next movies to see if it needs to be taken as a whole or to see if they're planning something before I make a definite decision.

My opinion is maybe more strict than yours, but we both come to the same conclusion. That's why i called 2.0 piece of crap, not the whole Rebuild series. 1.0 was pretty neat, and i happily watched it. Only 2.0 ruined my overall view of that movies.
Still, i have a little bit of hope for Q, or "You can (not) Re-do". We'll see what Anno is up to.
PS. I forgot to mention Mari - completely useless pilot without ANY background.

2.0 was pretty jarring for me just because of its huge change in story and tone. 1.0 was pretty much a retelling of the first few episodes with some changes. But yeah, we'll see were Anno is taking the series this time. Excited to see what role Kaworu plays this early on.
