Description After the version 3 of this model I tried to do a fourth version with even less polygons (aproximatedly 35 to 40% less) so here`s the first animation test of the definitive version of it.

I did this particular motion to test exclusively the shoulders because to me they`re are the most complex part of a model when it`s about deformation and that`s the part that didn`t worked well in the previous versions.

There are lots of polygons that doesn`t moves or gets deformed poperly yet but I`d say that this model passed it`s most difficult test so now it`s just matter of time until I can make the rest of it to work properly.

Since I can`t upload movie files in sites like this ones I preferred to render just 10 frames of the anim and make a gif so you can see it without problems.
And to make the file rather small I had to do a drastical color reduction so that`s why it looks like that. Anyways it`s only a test, more will follow soon ^_^

The thing that seems weird is the reaction of the back muscles - instead of stretching, they seem to be inflating. But I don't know much about computer animation...

Excellent work on the model; looks like you're gettin great deformation on the muscles with arm movement: Think I'll be watchin ya.

Works very nice, but may be the abs need more perfection. Hey how if he acts more like body builder. I know it will take much lot of efforts, but it won't be wasted

WOah!! This would be even more awesome (if that's possible) with more frames per second!!!

Fantastic as usual Big Braford!

Thanks a lot big bear I just used a few frames to avoid making a too big file. Especially because I had to make the animated gif manually

I'm impressed with the pectorals most of all. Well, and the shoulders/traps. But the pecs seem to bulge and compress realistically.

i would think the inward forearm curl would be the most dificult to achieve properly, though i could see how this one could be difficult. i salute you dude, i'm still trying to avoid starting on a rig for a muscular character (low poly for a game), it scares me to think of doin it wrong!

Thank you very much You`re right about the forearm curl. It`also a complicated part and it takes a lot of time to make it to work well. But to me the real nightmare are the shoulders because they can perform a wider array of motions in almost any direction and sometimes they can work right for some movements and wrong for others.
But after many tries with the previous versions and some other discarded models I noticed that this movement I did in the test anim is the best one (at least to me) to test the shoulders to see if they`re going to work or not.
After that I tried to move te arms in many different positions and the shoulders kept working well dortunatedly

My best suggestion to you is that when rigging your character, go directly to test the most complicated motion for you to test the flexibility of your model.

By the way, you`ve some very impressive works in your site both 2D and 3D, congratulations!

thanks much for the praise. something that might help you (it's an idea i've been rolling over in my head, but you seem farther along than i do on rigging so it might help you too) i've seen some tutorials & books that talk about constraining to a rig, allowing a the same character to switch between the 'normal' rig and the 'dynamic' one just using a slider (much like blendshapes). i dunno, might be something for you to look into, i've also noticed a script in maya (don't remember what this guy's in) that allows you to make a basic character and the rig and weights will adapt to however you alter the mesh. could be useful, i'm only working in low poly so i haven't found much need to start busting out with the complicated character movements (though i hope to learn soon). good luck, drop me a note when you've got him fully animated, i don't wanna miss it.

You`re very wellcome and thanks for the tip, that idea about switching rigs sounds interesting I`ll try to find out more about that.
However I`m working with 3DS Max so I`m not sure if it`ll be possible to do something like that unless there`s a plugin. Anyways there are a lot of things I`ve to learn.

I tried Maya once some time ago but since almost everything is rather different than max I was going to start from zero so that`s why I stayed with Max.

I`ll keep posting the progress I do on the model as soon as I`ve something else ready. Now I`m rigging the arms wich is another complicated ppart but not as much as the shoulders so I hope to have something else soon

Keep trying Braford! You can fly! Just believe! x3

Seriously, thats pretty cool though. I would love to see some bicep flexing.

LOL you`re right but I doubt that he can be able to take off no matter how hard he tries
About the bicep flexing, that`ll come soon, I prefer to start with the most complicated parts so when they`re are working well, the rest will be easier.
