Description Though I'm not a fan of Steiff or especially of 'studio' plush (to me they tend to look like taxidermy), I was so gobsmacked when I saw this Steiff Husky* back in 2000 that I actually flirted with the idea of finding the money - which in today's dollars would probably involve five figures. This was snapped at the now defunct F.A.O. Schwarz store in Chicago. I may be wrong, but is that the Douglas Irish Setter in the foreground?  *the tail looks Malamute. Actually the whole plush looks more malamute to me, except for the eyes.

Ooohhhhh...... This plush is one of my grails! I would so love to have her..... She sold on eBay last year for $1750. !!! A bit steep for my bank account at the time..... (If I could go back in time, I would totally second mortgage my house and snap her up.) What was most striking to me about this particular Steiff... is the blue and yellow eye combination. Not something you normally see on a plush husky! How cool!

I saved all of the photos of her and will try to upload one soon for reference.

I WAS lucky enough to find the black and white version at a local shop, and I have him on layaway.

I don't remember the exact price of this plush back in 2000, but it was north of $1750, so that would be a bargain - especially when you adjust for inflation.

You literally have a b/w version of this plush?

Steiff made so many different colors of this plush! Somewhere, there is a photo with 6 or 8 of them all harnessed up to a sled! SO COOL.
They were released in gray/white, black/white, brown/white, buff/white and solid white. SO many options!

I was lucky to find a black/white version at a local Christmas and antique shop. (He is new old stock.) The gal who I talked to, said the shop owner had purchased a huge amount of Steiff studio animals back in the 90's, and they were all on display in the shop up until a few years ago when she donated most of them to a children's organization. They still had my husky, and a HUGE bear, and a few others hanging out in the shop and they bring them out for their amazing Christmas displays.

I had found a couple of these studio huskies for sale in Gerrmany.... But the shipping costs to get just one of them back into the US is astronomical. Over $1000US. It *almost* made sense to fly there and bring them back in my checked baggage. Almost.

Oh my goodness, I loved that store (and especially that plush dog section) when it still existed!! That Steiff Husky looks amazing and yes, that is the back of Maggie's head in the foreground. It makes sense, but I never considered FAO Schwarz stores selling Douglas!

Man oh man, how I wish I could go back in time to that store when you took that picture!!

I found another view of that plush. I might put it up, and move it into scraps after a while.
