Um...."for the hell of it"? I'm sorry, I know you were just trying to write something about cutting, but obviously you know nothing about it. Cutting is never "just for the hell of it".

it sounds like you're mocking us a bit....i don't want to be rude, but if you were trying to go for the sympathetic voice, i don't hear it...

I have many pieces regarding this topic. They are all sympathetic as I can relate...I don't cut myself but I know what they feel.

That's what I thought too. (I know, this is an old comment, I really don't care)

I get you, but people are proud you know. ''Wanna do it myself'' is heard from a young age; people are ashamed of themselves (before and for doing it)nand they don't want someone else getting involved with their problems. It's just natural, but as the society grows grimmer...

Sorry too pop your bubble but the number of people who actually cut for attention is so damn low... most are embarrassed by this form of relief which they practice and therefore are unlikely to talk about it... This is how cutters got a bad name as those who do talk about it are the ones who have crappy reasons behind their actions...

I'm curious on what you think is a reasonable reason?
I think some people are just simply masochist... that some don't need a reason and do it recreationally.

Some of us have reasons, some of us think that we have reasons, some of us have reasons but dont think it matters, and some of us have no reason... All im saying is that the majority of us don't cut cause we want to show off, we cut as a relief or a way of expression... that is at least my opinion... i am only one cutter in a big wide world so yeah... changes for each person...

as a person who used to be addicted... I overly did it because I became infatuated with the sensations involved. Now I'm in the process of deciding what tattoo I want to cover it all up... because really my upper arm looks like shit.... it's over 75 scars in a 6"-2" area so basically it's mostly scar tissue.
when I say that people do it for attention. I'm talking about the people who say that they feel guilty for cutting themselves... I mean, it doesn't make sense to do it if they know it will make them feel worse afterwards.
And I have promised and heard of people who promise other people that they wouldn't do it... either to make them worry less or because they really want to stop... this only causes more guilt and alienation when they do cut.
I have nothing against cutting... I think that it isn't fair to worry your friends or family. It doesn't make anyone happier to worry people they care about. In this world it's highly unlikely that many people will understand.
- Nobody knew that I was cutting myself until I tried some fatal cuts (both across the wrist and down my forearm). I was getting tired of repeating the same things everyday and it seemed like it would be easy.
Well I failed... then I ended up telling one of my friends and they freaked out. Pretty soon every single friend of mine knew. And after 1-2 days of arguing with them... I decided not to try again because it appeared as though they needed me.
I do question myself on why I told my friend... maybe I wanted to be proven wrong and that my life wasn't pointless... maybe I wanted for people to know who I really was... I really don't know! However, I do know that as I found my own reasons to not try again, the cutting became less and less frequent.

I'm glad you were able to get over it...
One of my friend noticed my wrists as they were healing and i think she guessed despite my lies but that just kinda made it worse for me as now she is really paranoid around me taking away scissors etc. But that just makes me worse as i dont like having the option taken away. So i guess im on a downwards slope.
I completely understand what your talking about and agree with you.
