He had to leave because they found out that he was a Russian spy trying to collect information. They found out his real name and what he was doing all this time. He captured them and tried to take them to Russia as prisoners when they made him change is mind by saying all the awesome things they did together. He freed then and they offered his job back but he couldn't so he left to hide from both the U.S. and Russia.
