Description

Acheroraptor temertyorum was a dromaeosaurid dinosaur native to North America between 68 and 66 million years, making it a contemporary of the famous Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops. It is noteworthy for its particularly close resemblance to the Asian Velociraptor, leading both to be classified under the dromaeosaurid subfamily Velociraptorinae.

I wanted my portrayal of Acheroraptor to look rather like a terrestrial vulture since I believe this small and nimble carnivore would have made an excellent scavenger in its day. I can totally see it stealing morsels of meat from a tyrannosaur's kills when the big guy wasn't looking.

Why do Raptors have hooked toe claws?

I think it was to hook themselves into the flesh of their prey while ravaging them with their teeth and foreclaws.

Very nice overall design overall.

One thing in particular that I like about your design is that you didn't give it feathers all the way up to its face. It would make sense since it likely would've had to root its head through the body cavity of larger animals in order to get at the flesh and insides, and having a feathered face would've meant that its gonna get dirty with blood and carrion pretty much every time it eats.
