Description Coloured pencil portrait finished on 7th April 2018.

This was commissioned by HaploNexus as a birthday present. The characters you see are Elora and Sterling Vaelahrn, twins!, who have been played by the happy birthdayee and the commissioner, respectively. They come from the NeverwinterNights server "The Way Inn" where I was one of the founders - so I remember these characters, and their players, very well. "The Way Inn" and its denizens were set in the Forgotten Realms.

The Way Inn is the building behind the pair, famous as a roadside hub on the Sword Coast where all manner of travellers and adventurers meet. The twins themselves were some of the newer arrivals and would, like adventurers tend to do, stand out in a crowd: not only because Elora was a soft-spoken evoker and Sterling a warrior-dreaming-of-knighthood, but also because they were half-elven. Here, they stand at sunrise, symbolic of their budding career.

The full-sized image was made available to the commissioner only.

This is an easy set of thoughts for me to share, because there's nothing surprising or aberrant about them. This pair of characters was among my favorite from a line of golden years in my NWN rp career. The stories I had a part in, the characters I got to develop, the friends are made, all keep me thinking back to TWI and the wonderful staff that brought it to us and then kept it going. I'd give anything just for the chance to walk around the place again, maybe with a few familiar faces along for company.

I don't think anyone else, no matter how skilled, could've nailed this pair of characters as well as Copper here did. The setting was certainly her baby, and she had the chance to see both characters grow and improve. I wouldn't have known how to start describing a scene that can capture how I remember them, but it turns out I didn't even have to.

In short, this piece of art means a lot to me and the player of Elora, featured in the picture. It earns every bit of praise I have to give, and I hope others less familiar with the years of backstory behind that quaint little inn in the background can appreciate it every bit as much.

Thank you very much for the mindblowing rating and the time to critique this pic! I'm only afraid your praise is too high for how it turned out, but I'm glad you like it as much as you do. It does bring back memories.

I thought about where I could be critical, you know? But at the end of it, I just couldn't come up with it. I'll assure you it wasn't just to be nice, but what I expected and what I got were pretty spot on, and that's with high expectations! Maybe if I were an artist I could've been more objective about some specific things but that'd be nitpicking even then I think. It's awesome seeing your quality progress to where it is now through your DA and the very early sketches I saw of yours from way back when.

Sue! I was so surprised by this comment of a mysterious TWI-soul that I almost fell off my chair. I'm glad to hear from you - and such warm words at that!
Thank you very much, and I hope to honour some more characters either from the legendary TWI-era or from my later delvings into NWN's servers. Nostalgia is a lovely thing.

Beautiful work as usual.
I'm always impressed with the amount of detail you can do with colour pencils. I really like the mans armour, and the skirt of the woman. er tops seems a tiny bit bulky, maybe, but that could just be the design

Hi Shadow! Thank you so much. I'm a little surprised myself how well the skirt turned out: the pencils I use can be layered magnificently on top of each other, which is a blast.

The texture and "bulk" of her blouse/top gave me a harder time - bless you for noticing such things so precisely. I aimed for a more "baggy", loose-fitting look there.

Whatever the faults, I'm pleased with the results and glad that not only the commissioner and birthdayee, but also others like it too!

Lovely work, nice design on the female character's dress. Love the warm colors on the characters and the house, reminds me of my good old days in Baldurs' Gate and Neverwinter Nights.

Nostalgia everywhere, I agree! It brought back nice memories in my case, too, as I like(d) D&D, BG, NWN and the server that my friends and I created. It was a blast.

Thank you very much for the comment, the praise is high when coming from you!
