Jasper peered out from behind the tree and saw Quinn Phillips making her way to the tree, her nose buried in a book. The son of Apollo smiled and casually sat down and pretended to read the book he brought. He looked up to see Quinn glaring at him and he feigned surprise.
“Quinn,” he said. “What a coincidence you’re at this tree at 9: 30 a.m. too.” Quinn said nothing but raised an eyebrow at him. Jasper pointed at her book then held up his. “And it’s a coincidence that you’re reading Angels and Demons too!”
The daughter of Athena sighed, “Did you just come out from behind that tree?” Jasper denied. Quinn gave him a quizzical look before sitting next to him and resuming her reading.
Jasper stared at the girl next to him. Quinn Phillips was so beautiful and amazing and…beautiful. He liked how her hair was frizzy and wild. He liked her stormy grey eyes that seemed to look into his very soul. He didn’t mind that she wore boyish clothing. That most probably meant that she was not proud and did not have to flaunt her hot figure (okay, he thought she was hot). And Jasper most definitely liked Quinn’s freckles. He spotted a strand of hair fall into her face and he was sorely tempted to tuck it in.
“You’re staring”, Quinn said without looking at him. Jasper denied. At that, Quinn looked him. “Yes, you were.” Her eyes dropped to the unopened book on Jasper’s lap. “So at what part are you already?”
“Oh, in Angels and Demons?” Jasper chewed on his lower lip. “On the part where there are angels and demons?”
Quinn scoffed at him then returned to her book. Jasper quickly took out some papers and cleared his throat. She looked at the papers being handed to her.
“I kinda composed a song for you,” Jasper said sheepishly. Quinn raised both her eyebrows then continued reading.
“And what make you think that I would care?”
“I don’t know.”
The boy placed the papers on Quinn’s book causing her to groan in annoyance.
“Just take a look at it,” he told her.
“No.”
“Please.”
Quinn sighed before eyeing the papers. “All I see are notes.”
“Yeah, and it’s for trumpet so you could hear me play it.”
The daughter of Athena regarded him with grey eyes. She handed the papers back to him and continued her readings. Jasper frowned and leaned back on the tree trunk. For a moment, there was silence.
“Hey, do you want muffins?” Jasper asked suddenly. Quinn rolled her eyes and paid him no attention. “It’s Poppy Seed muffins. I was told you like them.”
Quinn’s eyes flickered to him; the boy had a box of muffins in his hands. He offered her one and she took it. She examined the muffin before watching Jasper take a bite out of one. She did so too.
“Where did you get this?” she asked him.
“From Ava and Brianna,” Jasper said happily and fixed Quinn with an extremely loving stare. “That’s sweet, right?” He sounded dreamy.
Quinn’s eyes widened. “You got this from the Aphrodite cabin?!” she nearly shouted at him.
“Yeah,” Jasper answered, obviously surprised by her sudden outburst. “Why?”
“Jasper, don’t you know what ha-!”
Quinn froze, her grey eyes studying his blue ones. And she looked at him. Like actually looked at him. Jasper looked at her like she dropped from Mars. “Quinn? You were saying?” He suddenly smiled when she put on a small smile. “Wait, what were you trying to say?”
Quinn said nothing, the small smile still on her lips. She sighed dramatically as she closed her book.
“Quinn?” The boy rested his hand on hers. A part of him was happy she did not pull away at his touch. Quinn looked back at him. “You were saying?”
Quinn opened her mouth and her eyes studied Jasper. “I was saying,” she started. “I think I would like to hear you song about me now.”
