Description New Jersey- Get the Fick out'a my capital Hesse-y

Hesse- My eye, I vill get you for zis.

New Jersey- yeah yeah, just go cryin' back to yu'momma.

No offense meant to anyone from Hesse, or to any Germans out there. I just wanted to draw this confrontation between these two characters.

On December 25th 1776, American forces under George Washington crossed the Delaware River and launched a surprise attack on the Hessian headquarters in Trenton, New Jersey. The outcome of the battle was over 100 Hessians killed or wounded, with roughly 1,000 being taken prisoner. And the Americans supposedly suffering only 5 wounded and zero combat deaths (2 men dying on the march).

Here we have a victorious New Jersey holding a smoking pistol while his foot is over a tattered Hessian flag. And Hesse's hand is covered in blood from the wound to his face.

*While researching Hesse's canon character, it said that he had a scar on his right eye, but it never really specified how he got it, so this is my interpretation of how it happened.*

Enjoy.  ^^

Not bad mate. Still have no idea why they hired the Hessian soldiers, they pretty much just folded. Weren't any real boost to the combat forces.

Thank you so much,

Actually since King George III of Britain was a Hanoverian (German) he had many relatives on the thrones of several German States, so as allies they agreed to send soldiers for 7 pounds a soldier. The British had a powerful army, but it was still small and they needed aid, so they needed the Hessians and Loyalists.

As for the combat part, the Hessians were very feared by the Continentals  before the Battle Trenton, but after the aforementioned battle, The Hessians were seen as mortal and thus a beatable enemy for the Americans.

There's one thing you never mentioned, which was especially shown in the manga, Hesse was drunk. I know it's not much, but it's very important information at this very battle and why George Washington chose to attack on Christmas specifically. This is especially important, because Hetalia had made this cannon.

I know, I'm not saying Hesse wasn't drunk, I'm just saying that he was beaten and pretty pissed after New Jersey kicked his ass.

I haven't gotten to the manga yet. (though I REALLY want to) but this is just one of my interpretations of a historic event.

Nice.

Generally, when it comes to creating USA OC's, I normally don't have them states. For one, that's WAY too many characters. Second, all the great ideas with America having states as personas has already been taken. I basically separate my USA OC's by the Northeast, Southeast and West. Of course, then you have Hawaii, Alaska, Native America, colonies and the micronations.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BravoKrofski In reply to ufd [2015-03-09 15:18:57 +0000 UTC]

yeah, I just ask friends to submit their OCs to me and then I keep a running tally on them.

I just make as many as I feel like and throw a few of them together in some drawings.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ufd In reply to BravoKrofski [2015-03-09 23:21:37 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. There's another reason why I don't do states having their own personas. Keep in mind these were done right, being why I'm not taking it into consideration. It's just REALLY difficult to get right.

For one, each state has a different culture and history. They have different accents and different ways of doing things. You have those like Alabama that's like "we're from around here, don' cha know." those from New York that's kind of a mix of Brooklyn and a real New York accent, then there's those down in the south that always say "y'all." It gets too complicated and you have to keep track that every state is different and some states have a different culture from the North and South parts of the State or East and West. Hell, there's an area in Illinois that almost became a different state in itself. Many make the mistake of just creating these different personas and not looking into each of their own history and just giving all of them typical American accents, aside from Texas, California or New York, which is lazy in my opinion.

Second, it's too typical to make them America's children and never explain how the hell that's possible. At least, if you had an America and Confederate persona, that being only those two, there's more of a balance and a storyline behind him/her. For the states, it's harder to explain how they could be America's kids. America looked 16 when he was still Britain's colony. That would mean he gave birth to those kids then. Also, America started as a little tiny colony when he was made up of 5 colonies. So, that would mean America was a daddy when he looked 5 or 10  years old. Kinda makes Spongebob more logical by comparison and you're talking about a show that you can create fire underwater. People make the mistake of just adding the children, claiming they've been around before the Revolutionary War, and never explaining how America had kids when he looked 5 or 10. Only one fan fiction explained this, mentioning that the kids didn't start popping around until after America gained independence and his states started forming their own culture, including Alaska (like Alaska didn't start forming a persona of her own until after America bought that land).

Third, and this is VERY important, Canada. No fan fiction I know of EVER explained how Canada fit into the picture. America is ALWAYS the one with the children, but not Canada (despite having Providences that have their own government and culture just like the states). It never explains if Quebec or Nova Scota was America's kids or if Canada was a second daddy or like an uncle figure.

These might help you a bit, since you are going into each state having its own persona. Though, one suggestion I highly recommend is not make any of the states America's children. It'll avoid so many problems you'll have along the way, when creating state personas. It'll especially solve the issues with the second and third problem I have with the idea. Besides, America is 19 in human years. He doesn't need the role of parenthood, let alone raise 50 kids. GEEZ LOUISE!!

You make a lot of fair points about this, I tend to play it safe when it comes to all of this.

#1- I'm really good with geography and history. I create or volunteer to make these OCs knowing the information of their respective states.

#2 and #3- I don't call the states  America's children. I make all of the states roughly the same age since America was found in pieces and  the countries that colonized each region took those respective states and Providences (including Canada).

Ex:
-New Jersey and Delaware to Sweden
-New York and Pennsylvania to Netherlands
-Louisiana and Nova Scotia to France
-Puerto Rico, California, and Florida to Spain
-Virginia, Georgia, Oregon, and New England to Britain
-The Virgin Islands to Denmark
-and Alaska to Russia

I try not to expand too much with the details, I just say that all the states work under America and the same goes for the Canadian Provinces. (I currently have an OC for Alberta, and I'm planning to make one for Nunavut very soon)

America and Canada themselves I take it are the main people to represent their respective lands, but I add in the state and province OCs for the sake of precision.

ufd In reply to BravoKrofski [2015-03-10 01:37:10 +0000 UTC]

Smart choice. I mean I see the potential in making the states America's OC children, but I've only read one fan fiction that got it right.

But yeah, for me, there are only four USA OC's I would consider to technically be in charge of a single state. They would be South USA or previously Confederate States of America/Republic of Texas, Native America when he was forced to live in Oklahoma, Hawaii and Alaska. Two of these eventually gained more land, one of them gained land more land before as well.

I'm interested, what's your backstory for Hawaii and Alaska (if you have a Hawaii OC)?

BravoKrofski In reply to ufd [2015-03-10 02:20:23 +0000 UTC]

The Hawaii OC i use was actually from my friend Sharon. My best guess of her OC is that she represents the island as a whole from before 1778, when the Europeans discovered it to modern day. And I don't have anything for Alaska.

The OCs I work with the most are my personal OC New Jersey, Pennsylvania for my friend Johnny, and a couple of OCs I created based of my friends and family.

ufd In reply to BravoKrofski [2015-03-10 02:57:27 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I see.

I haven't done much of my Alaska's backstory, besides that he was sold to America, because Russia wanted to protect him from England. Alaska was kind of a bit of a psycho like Belarus and maybe Russia, so when the cold war came, he became obsessed with destroying Russia and had been since. During the modern times, Russia is still scared of Alaska like he is with his sister, only not as bad, since Alaska is no longer part of Russia's territory and isn't obsessed in wanting to marry him like Belarus. Also, Alaska is obsessively in love with Sarah Paline.

For Hawaii, I have done a ton of work on her. Basically, her story goes that she was a colony of England's. She was born with nobody and lived alone with only the sea as her friend. One day, Russia visited her and Hawaii made her first friend. England eventually came and claimed her as his little sister. Hawaii was okay with this, since she was very lonely. The problem was that she wasn't growing. Many of England's colonies always grew up, but Hawaii stayed to look 5 years old. Eventually, England abandoned and forgot her. A family came, who were from America, that wanted to help her people. When America heard about Hawaii's problem with growing up, he came to help and made a deal to help her grow up, if she sold him some land to grow sugar cane. She agreed and America bought some land, while also giving Hawaii's people education. Her economy grew and she began growing into a beautiful young lady. Eventually, she was doing things on her own to help her economy. Eventually, problems occurred between her and America and they went into a fight. America got so mad that he planned an invasion, having gone too far. Hawaii wasn't trained for war, being she never needed to go to war. Her boss told her to surrender immediately, because America is her brother through England. Hawaii did what her boss told her and surrendered to compromise with America. This resulted in America overthrowing Hawaii's monarchy and claiming her as his territory. Hawaii had held that grudge against America for a long time until the attack on Pearl Habor. Hawaii saw Japan kill so many of her people and wanted vengeance. America taught her how to fly a plane and she helped in bombing Japan to end the war. From this experience, Hawaii learned that no matter how bad America hurt her, he still was the only one that loved her and would never abandon her like England did so long ago. She happily became a part of America's family as a state with Alaska as her way of forgiving America and they have been close since. She's the only USA OC that is considered to be America's little sister through England.

I also have backstories with my other USA OC's such as Native America, South USA and Louisiana (West USA).

BravoKrofski In reply to ufd [2015-03-10 03:55:27 +0000 UTC]

That's a nice back-story for both.

I'm trying to think of backstories. I have one for, New Jersey, and the ones made by my friends are left to the creators [my friends] and whatever ideas I can pull from history.

New Jersey was found walking on the shore with his brother Delaware (both looked like they were only 5 years old). It was in the early 1600s that they were found by Sweden and Finland and were adopted as their sons, and both were named "New Sweden". However 30 years later the Netherlands came to conquer them and Sweden abandoned them without a fight. A few decades later, the 2 were once again conquered, this time by Britain who dubbed Delaware, Delaware because of the famous river and native tribe that originated there, and New Jersey after one of Britain's children of the same name. When the Revolution came New Jersey was the most  divided of all the colonies and at times sided with Britain. After he became the 3rd state in the country he began to advance his state as a leader in the industrial revolution. He actually thought about leaving the Union with the Confederacy, but later clarified that he was just joking. Afterwards he saw a huge influx of Poles and Italians moving in, thus influencing his very quirky, optimistic, guedo personality. Nowadays he's happy to be part of America, and welcomes plenty of visitors who want to visit his world-famous beaches and amusement parks, although he is bitter at New York for overshadowing him and calling NJ "America's Armpit".

ufd In reply to BravoKrofski [2015-03-10 22:07:07 +0000 UTC]

I'll start with Native America. By the way, my Native America OC is a HE not a she. He's also not a parental figure of any kind to America. Maybe a godfather, but that's about it. He also doesn't own official land as much as he owned culture. He did own Oklahoma and always has, but he owns small patches of his tribes that still exist. Much of his culture is a mix of the old traditional ways, which he favors, and the modern culture some of his people follow.

Native America has always been around for thousands of years. Nobody is sure of his true age, not even himself. He claims he's as old as China, though. He used to have many brothers like Aztec, Choctaw, and so on that lived almost as long as he has. He was the middle child of his brothers. Of course, when other countries came around, they started killing his brothers one by one, Spain being the first to do so. His other brothers grew vengeful, but Native America turned to the spirits, which he usually does often. He began seeing small nations appearing from these countries that killed his brothers, whom he considered his children and would soon turn against these countries that killed his brothers. Many of them were from South and Middle America. Though, there were two children among these that were different that came from North America, who were different from the rest, mainly because they were children that came from the countries Native America considered to be his allies or friends. Louisiana was fine, being she often gave Native America stuff and he gave her fur. Though, America and Canada were a different story. At the start that they came to existence, they often harassed Native America by throwing rocks and eventually using guns against him as they grew older, mainly America. Canada was mainly following his brother's lead. Before America found England, Native America gave him his name for reasons no country knows, except America himself, who claims that Native America gave him his name, because the spirits told him that America would claim Native America's land. After America gained independence and the War of 1812, Native America had decided to make the best with what he has and try to live more to America's culture. America still harassed him, though mildly. Native America had hoped things would get better until the Trail of Tears when America kicked Native America out of his home and walk barefooted to Oklahoma. This is the only time America claims that he didn't want to kick Native America out of his home and was only following his boss's orders, including ripping the cowlick Nantucket that Native America also has on his head. It's also a day America regrets most, because of what happens later in result of it. Native America had lost trust in America completely and watched his culture and people decrease slowly. America, sometime during the cold war, found him on his bed close to disappearing like a ghost. It freaked him out so badly that he made it his mission to play hero and take care of Native America and keep him alive a little longer. Native America has forgiven America, but never lets him forget what he did. They do spend time, Native America teaching America and Canada of his culture and sometimes going hunting. Native America also will arrive during USA meetings to cool down the tension that often goes on.

Louisiana Purchase is America's wife and France's little sister. France found Louisiana when he first settled in the Americas and took her in as her caretaker. When Britain won claims over America, France planned different ways to gain America's favor for years, especially since America lets him visit any time of the day. America loved both of them equally. When America grew up a bit and began liking France's food better than England's, he admitted that he loved both of them, but would rather live with England, because he doesn't want England to be sad. France decided to use America's kindness to his advantage by bringing in Louisiana and hoping to have them fall in love. France's plan was for America to find favor in Louisiana and want to marry her, then when they join in marriage, then he would claim both of them, since they can't be owned by him or England. England, though, saw this as him kicking France's ass again, since he was so cocky that he never believed America would turn against him. This was especially so after the French and Indian War. England was feeling too cocky and France could already see America wanting to separate from England. Little did France know that his little colony Louisiana was feeling trapped and did not belong with France. She felt separated from France. Louisiana was mainly a trader or a homemaker. She only did things that she was supposed to do, because she was "a lady." She felt like she could do so much more. When America was at war with England, Louisiana snuck aboard a ship with Lafayette, mainly to help him get to America with his volunteers, to help America gain independence. Louisiana dressed as a guy soldier, America and Lafayette being the only men to know her identity. America promised Louisiana that after he got things settled with his new country, he could share this freedom with her to make sure everyone was equal and no one was left behind. When Napoleon started ruling the roost, there was fear that he'd invade America, so Louisiana persuaded and tricked France to letting her marry America, convincing him that he could have both of them after he won the war against England. France talked with his boss and the purchase was made, including America's and Louisiana's marriage. Louisiana used her new-found freedom to do things she never did under France, including participating in the War of 1812 during the Battle For New Orleans, which she kicked Britain's ass in a humiliating defeat. Louisiana told Britain that day that she and America belong to no one. When France was defeated in the Napoleonic Wars, feeling heartbroken that he would never obtain Louisiana and America, Britain told France what Louisiana told him, that she and America belong to no one. After that, France and England left them alone, no longer fighting over dominance over them. Louisiana gained more of the western states, now claiming the Western States that are from the Rockies and Western. She's very liberal in her thinking and will not hold back in letting America know what needs to be done and finding more freedom to give. She fights for the rights of everyone, no matter how different. She had fought for women's rights, civil rights of the colored, gay rights, and so on. Sometimes she will overdo things, but her cause is meant well.

South USA is the only USA OC that was claimed by another North America country before America. His original name was Republic of Texas or Texas for short. He lived with his brother Mexico, who claimed him after gaining independence from Spain. What Mexico didn't know was that Texas was born from America's people, since America wasn't very good with maps and claimed his territory where Mexico's territory was supposed to be. It is unknown if America or Mexico found Texas first. Texas favored America and claims that he is his true brother. Mexico eventually found out about America trespassing and grew envious, having a fight with America to stay out of his territory. There was a huge debate on which little brother Texas belonged to. He eventually grew sick of the fighting and claimed himself independent as Republic of Texas. America accepted, but Mexico didn't and fought for his claim over Texas in the Texas Revolution. With America's help, Texas won fair and square. After gaining independence, Mexico still tried to claim back Texas, begging and pleading with him. Texas was getting sick of this and would often run off to America's place to get away from Mexico. Eventually, he admitted to America that he actually wanted to be a part of his country, but didn't like the fighting and now Mexico won't leave him alone. America made him a deal that if he gained enough votes, he could became an official US state. Texas tallied the votes and became an official state of the USA. America had his men guard Texas's territory and Mexico grew angry, finding out that America claimed Texas as his state. This led to the Mexican-American War, which Mexico kidnapped Texas and America fought for him. Texas never forgave Mexico after that and in modern days, still shoots him every time he crosses the boarder. Texas renamed himself South USA, since America decided to give him more territory, mainly the slave states. South USA was better at slave trade and used to the idea of having African slaves. Of course, plot twist, he's part African himself. Though, he is considered white and bought a few slaves of his own, since this was very normal for him. The trouble came when he discovered about the Underground Railroad and that America was possibly in charge of this. South wanted to find a compromise, but Louisiana was barking and no biting and America wanted to stop it altogether. There was also money problems in the mix and South mainly got his doe from the taxes on slaves. His governments of his states were pressuring him continuously and this led to the threat of separation if Abraham Lincoln became president. South didn't want to separate, since this was a stupid reason to separate and did understand why slavery was such a big problem (at this point, he kept getting mistaken for a runaway slave and it caused trouble for him often). On top of that, South actually liked Abraham Lincoln's ideas. Eventually, war broke out and South was forced with a new boss right out of woodlock. He felt helpless, especially being that he was forced to fight against his own brother for the most stupid of all reasons. Because of this, he wasn't completely loyal with his new boss and was often mistreated and treated like a slave at this point and time. He eventually planned an escape, having enough of that shit, and joined up with America at the Siege of Petersburg and Richmond. He told everyone Robert E. Lee's plan to escape the siege and they made the first move immediately, leading to Battle of Five Forks and South taking any supplies available for Robert E. Lee. It took a while for Robert E. Lee to discover that South was with the Union and immediately surrendered, realizing he had no chance of winning. After Abraham Lincoln's assassination, that pushed South over and he exiled himself to fix the damage from the war. America and the other USA family hardly heard from him, but have heard rumors that South was married to a former slave of his before her death. South also had been working on railroads and focusing on educating himself to get out of the blue collared working he was in charge of at the time to go for white collared jobs. He eventually returned from exile to work on fixing the issues with the filth in the cities and fight for civil rights of the colored. It was then that he became strongly conservative and believed that nobody can have freedom and liberty without restraint and moral values. He's very racist and homophobic, but always shows a strong point in what he believes in. He's also the USA OC that's able to convince Louisiana, if she's taking her fights and protesting too far.

Yeah. I've worked alot on South, due to finding too many CSA personas that were clones of America and being America's evil twin. I found that to be bs and decided to make my own CSA that was a better version. This one is not a clone and, in fact, looks nothing like America. I was debating whether to have the Texas flag or CSA flag be his main flag, but then I decided to have it be the CSA flag. South represents the Southern USA and the culture it's become. That's where you get the cotton farms, rednecks, hillbillies, rodeos, etc.

It's not the stereotyping, it's what makes them work. Afterall, every character is basically a stereotype. What makes them work is that there was effort and research put into them. There was truth to the stereotype.

The "evil slaveowner" stereotype came mainly from the stories from the former slaves. Most slaves were owned by farmers that owned dozens of slaves and they were usually low class, redneck bastards. Though, if you were to calculate how many slave owners of the world were like that, you would find that most slave owners were actually not that bad. What makes South work is that not only does he represent the slave owner, but also the slave himself. He's been on both sides of the coin.

As the typical slave owner, he owns over a hundred slaves that work on his farm. He always cares for them the best of his abilities and gives them a bit of freedom, including having church with them. Though, at the same time, he has his bad days and will sometimes take it out on one or two of his slaves, but not because he loves mistreating slaves (could be partly because he is racist), but he is human. He even eventually falls in love with a runaway slave and it will be hinted that he perhaps married her too. It works, because he's representing all of the south, not just one part of it. You can't have someone representing the south unless you represent all of the south just like America represents all of America or France represents all of France.

you know what I mean though, they mold the stereotype creatively, and mix some other ideas into the character to make them work.

I do that with my characters too.

Exactly! The stereotypes are molded creatively and there's backstory behind them.

AWESOME!

ancestor in the Continental Army that came from one of the German States. Not sure which one. I believe he was a Colonel or that could've been something he was called when he came over. Arrived before the Revolution and ever since, my ancestors fought in a few wars.

hmmm. Interesting. I'm a first generation American so my family stayed mostly around East Prussia, Poland, and Tunisia around the time of the 18th Century.

One of my ancestors even married the sister to an American Legend, so my roots run deep in this country.

My nanny was Dutch and she was the first to be born in my family. She was born in 1942. I wonder what that would make me since my nanny gave birth to a girl that later on gave birth to my mom. Jeesh this is confusing, but what would that make me?

it would makes you, you.

My grandfather was Polish, his village was burned down in 1941 and he met my grandmother in Russia and my father was born in Lithuania.

That makes me American. ^_^
