Look to the story of Loryn Mercer and Lumia.

Loryn: I was just a boy with a heart condition, which I inherited from my late mother. I spent most of my life indoors or around doctors. My attempts to be like the other kids, playing with the other kids, land me in a hospital bed. After each instance, it takes longer to recover. One day in the hospital, everything changed forever. While a teen and celebrating my birthday, I met another patient, wore a red bracelet like me—he was in the hospital for heart issues too. We liked each other but his parents were opposed to this. He was their golden child, so they weren’t going to make him unhappy or upset. But they will see to it I never come into contact with him again. Erwin has a sister, and when we met she scared me with some demonic stuff like twisting her head, then there were flashes of scary things, and my heart felt like it was going to burst. The pounding and struggling of my pathetic heart was torturous and I collapse while trying to breathe and call out for help. No one knew she did it. Took a long while for anyone to notice me dying on the floor.

Lumia: If not for vengeance, I would have never met Loryn. He’s the son of Julius Mercer, the fearsome demon hunter who killed my brother. I found his son, and through possessing some doctors I found out about his condition. I possessed a girl and scared Loryn into a heart attack then made my escape. If I could not kill Julius, then I will just kill Loryn. I realize that was not good enough, so I return to the hospital and find him in a room with doctors trying to revive him—their efforts were futile. After killing the doctors and setting ablaze most of the building, I temporarily stabilize and kidnap the human. I knew Julius was trapped in Hell, cursed by the demon who captured and enslaved him. I goaded him into disobeying his master to save his son, who was tied to a table. It worked and I stood face-to-face with my brother’s killer, who was dying due to his curse after killing his master. He looked very awful. We began battling.

Loryn: I awaken to a man swearing at a demon lady for involving me, his son, in their feud. The crumbling sickly man was my father and an acclaimed demon hunter. The fight was entertaining to say the least, but I couldn’t enjoy it for long when my heart began failing again. My dad noticed and ended the fight quick. I saw that demon Lumia get nailed to the wall after getting her wings ripped off. “I must save my son. YOU can save him.” I heard my dad say that and Lumia screamed. I see her getting cut open and her heart getting slowly ripped out before I lose consciousness. I wake up to my dad smiling and apologizing for being absent in my life before turning to ash. I notice the huge glowing scar on my chest—Lumia’s heart was thumping within me. I no longer felt weak. I ran around until I tired and there were no chest pains or irregular rhythm. I discarded the red bracelet and left the hideout, walking aimlessly.

Lumia: I see everything Loryn sees, feel what he feels and so on. I was bound to him when Julius did that transplant. I watch him accidentally use my powers and misuse it. I was silent at first, despising this shameful entrapment following my defeat and death, my failure at vengeance. He can use my powers, summon me to fight alongside him as his familiar, or summon me in the form of armor—I could not oppose. I began communicating with him only to help him better use my powers. He got me to talk more beyond that, and I’ll admit that he grew on me. We became the best of friends. Though there has not been a day since our symbiosis I have not wished I had my body and not be some extension to this human I befriended.

This duo (called Loryn-Lumia) have spent years fighting demons who would threaten Earth; it seemed like fate Loryn would begin battling demons given that he descends from a bloodline of demon hunters. Loryn-Lumia would eventually meet someone whom they assume to be a god-like demon. They find out they encountered no demon, but a Nephilim named Erebos. Erebos sensed Lumia’s desire for life no longer bonded to Loryn, whose chest he impales with a finger and used his power proselyte, filling his power with dark mist. Loryn and Lumia awake to see they were separated, the former now lacking the glowing scar and has his own heart, and the latter now having a human look. This is the new chapter of their story.
