»Backstory:[ Prologue ] Lars previously lived with his mother in an apartment complex on the outskirts of Uhih’s cities, nestled atop a sandy stretch and surrounded by a perpetual heat he had since grown accustomed to. His transition had been somewhat of a blur, happening probably sometime in his pre-teen years. His mother had been supportive of her son when diagnosed with selective mutism and continued to be a figure of comfort for him during his transition.
Lars would accompany his mother to a foster home for disabled children that she worked at, it becoming like a second home to him. He had trouble connecting with anybody on a fundamental level, there and at public school, so he frequently idled himself to singular activities, drawing being one to stick with him. However he made good friends with some of the deaf foster kids, who taught him how to use ASL when he admitted a dislike to using verbal communication. His sign language remains clumsy at best, but it was a great relief for him to be able to use it. Together he and his mother learned how to use it together.
When he turned the legal age to move out, Lars insisted on staying around the foster home (he wouldn’t admit that he grew fond of his housemates’ company, or that finding work was a no go). He spent his time helping out around the home, running errands and other miscellaneous chores when they popped up to make ends meets. It was an otherwise peaceful lifestyle, and he picked up sketching again in his free hours.
When Lars was unceremoniously evacuated from his home into an unfamiliar, noisy train, it was a very distressing time. There was no warning beforehand, and despite the government escort’s patience when he called them out, he was only told that he’d be relocated to the capital of The Western Summer. Overwhelmed by the abrupt change, Lars simply curled up and remained despondent on the train ride there, days following and with gentle coaxing from the other passengers, he now looks out the window wondering if his friends and mother misses him.
[ Chapters 1-3 ]Lars was daunted by the guard's presence and wanted to nip it in the bud while he believed they still had the chance. He hastily also firmly voted for Maple, and was unhappy with how the vote turned in favor of Basil's more peaceful approach.
