My 70th deviation!

Okay, THIS was tedious...

For a while now, I've become so absorbed into H.P. Lovecraft's stories that I think I might have a little obsession going on (oh well...) , and after reading "The Shadow Over Innsmouth", I just HAD to draw a Deep One!

While trying to get inspiration from other artists' versions of a Deep One, I didn't feel that they adapted it very well from the description in the story:

“I think their predominant colour was a greyish-green, though they had white bellies. They were mostly shiny and slippery, but the ridges of their backs were scaly. Their forms vaguely suggested the anthropoid, while their heads were the heads of fish, with prodigious bulging eyes that never closed. At the sides of their necks were palpitating gills, and their long paws were webbed. They hopped irregularly, sometimes on two legs and sometimes on four. I was somehow glad that they had no more than four limbs. Their croaking, baying voices, clearly wed tar articulate speech, held all the dark shades of expression which their staring faces lacked.”

Seeing as this is a horror story, I figured this thing had to look pretty scary, so I Googled "scary fish" to find the hideous and grotesque looking fish I could find, and found a black viper fish, and gave it the whiskers of a catfish.

To my understanding, I personally feel that this is a more accurate representation of a Deep One (of course minus the colour, ). I might colour it. Haven't decided yet...

So Lovecraftian fans... Did I do a good job on my version??? I hope H.P. Lovecraft approves of my version up there!
