SAVA - a young Hmong tribeswoman focused solely on protecting her infant brother after her village was razed during punitive action taken by a Han battalion under the command of General Huliang.

MUANG - a Tanka/Baiyue labourer in Anxinan Protectorate. Operates a river boat for the transport of goods. Frequently demeaned by Han settlers due to his indigenous heritage.

HULIANG - a ruthless Han officer bent on subjugating the tribes of the Upper Yangtze. Responsible for maintaining the military arm of the Protectorate General to Pacify the Southwest. Makes no attempt to hide his ruthlessness, frequently razing villages when faced with resistance.
