Description This is an homage to Genndy Tartakovsky's Samurai Jack from several months back, and is obviously yet to be finished. I love Tartakovsky's work and unique vision, and particularly enoyed the challenge of interpeting that distinct vision through my own visual filter. My penciling style has evolved a bit from this, but I still think it's interesting to look at.

Maybe I'll get around to fixing some things and inking it up some day.

OMG samuri jack was the best show ever, its so cool!!

i would have made his face a little .."softer" though, he tries to be peaceful! not always angry XDD

Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's the Samurai way to be all cool and collected , but I really liked pumping him up. I mean, let's just pretend this illustration is when he finally returns to Japan to battle Aku for the first time. I mean, he saw his dad and all his people completely broken by the evil wizard. I think anyone would be allowed a little anger in those circumstances. Sheesh, what are you, the Bushido police, or something?

Love Samurai Jack. I was hooked on the synthesis of just music and visuals to show how he grew up. A great piece of animation. Nice homage Brett.

Thanks, Chris. Wait until you see the finished version. I think it's my best stuff to date. I love the show as well, but can't really watch it any longer, as my oldest son really, really gets a little too into being a samurai...that, and he keeps asking me to sing the theme song .

Yes! I'd like that, it'd be a tasty collab... already planning it out in my head! Its a month of collabs from me on DA, well I alwasy collab I guess, but not asked ones very often

Ha! Yeah, I think I pretty much managed to round off all his edges. Like I said, I was attempting to interpret something wildly different in my own vision. Maybe I should have said, "remaking it in my own image," as there's not much of Tartakovsky's style left . I probably could have sqaured him a bit more. In terms of his age, hmmmm, I was going for something in the "intensely angry mid-twenties" range. Maybe refining some of the darker/deeper areas of shadow, and thinning them down a bit could help clarify that.
