Description Hey Everybody!

This is a template I made for my own uses and figured I'd share it with you all!

This is for a western comic book page layout.  The purpose of the layout is to establish your compositions and storytelling of the page before wasting time going directly to the board.  Lots of publishers want to see your layouts before you start a page so they can proof them to make sure there aren't any problems in your art that either conflict with the script or to catch problems that weren't caught by the writer.  Also they want to make sure the pacing, mood, and story fit. Layouts need to be detailed enough that you can know what is going on but simple enough that changes can be made quickly and easily.  I will work out my layouts and send those in to be approved. Once that is done I go in with photoshop and toss in my perspective grids and any sketchup models i need.  I'll also make any last minute changes and then print them out at size and lightbox them onto my page.

Each company has a slightly different set of dimensions but I made these directly from a Marvel board that they provide to their artists so I know it is correct in regards to what Marvel uses.  There are two boxes on each layout. The inner box is your active art area and the outer is the bleed. So your standard art will fit inside and if you wanna break out of the standard size, have an open panel, or break panel border then draw to but not outside the outer box. Any art outside that would be trimmed off in post.  I gave marks for thirds and quarters for general positioning of panels and such. Under each layout is a couple lines for any notes you may have for yourself or editor before going to the actual page. On the top are credits and on each box is a tag for page number.

Nothing fancy but very useful I have found.  If you would like the eps that I used to make this just send me a note and ill get it to you.

haha yeah I have been tweaking this for about a year which is dumb but I've been using this for the last couple months on a few different projects so I guess it works for me.  Only difference now is I'll go in and type in the top info and print out new one for each project.

I wish that my printer could do plumb lines, so that I could just enlarge my thumbs and light-board them. But there's about a .02% grade.
