Description A commission for IudexArborensis . The 'God's Garden' setting belongs to Sinjo-of-the-North

The Land of Xumesh is a land which stands against the Gorasaian Bay, and is the neighbour of Hoxva, Salixnia, and the Zhei Steppes, as well as the infamous Valley of Boulders. It's split halfway through by an hydrographic feature called "the Lakelands" which causes the land to be perennially submerged in wetlands, fields of verdant mud and floods once per year. The other part is composed by wet savannas, seldom rainy, and the "Wild Fields" further inland, as the land shifts to grasslands beyond.
It is part of the Katheshi cultural area, composed of peoples who owe their origin to the once mighty Old Kathesh, and their mithycal founder Garash the Prophet.

The beasts of Xumesh are often of amphibious lives; and vary wildly from giant herbivore Allocams of the sizes of elephants, to insects and sea-scorpios hiding in the silt and mire.
In such environment, he who owns a bow is king among men, and she who knows the Sacred Lores is queen among women. As the Lord allowed their liberation from the Old Shysz Empire in times of yore, the Xumeshae are a people of devotees and zealots. Noble men follow the example of Garash, and arm themselves to be honourable warriors of bow and sabre. Women fill their role as emulators of Halid Xalma, his wife, and become depository of the people's culture, speaking the "Shaléme" idiolect proper of their gender. To deviate from these norms is considered queer at best, and treasonous at worst. This comes in stark contrast with the rest of Mankind.

The effort of conquering and carving domains from the Lakelands and unhospitable borderlands has made the creation of a wide franchise of nobles, called the Hshatam, possible. In Xumesh, all nobles are equal in status, and feudalism is replaced by a form of private land-ownership. The biggest clans include the smaller through adoption of arms, forming large confederacies of nobles fighting under the same heraldry, and competing with the King's seat in Ixdàhar for importance.
