Description The second page of the Lammas section of my Illustrated Book of Shadows, [link] for August 1. The page border was created in Photoshop CS 5 extended and Painter 11. The border was created with a graphite pencil drawing, pen and ink, and then scanned into Photoshop CS 5, and colorized an texturized using a Cintiq 21UX Wacom tablet. The design is based on a woodcut by William Morris. The background page is scanned parchment. The illustrated art is a composite of etchings from Dover publishing. Interesting enough is the fact that my wife's family in Wyoming still used horse and wagon to haul the hay to the barn up until around 1960. My father was the last generation to harvest hay in this fashion in Moab. By the time I was in the fields we had a Ford tractor and machine to make the bales of hay. In Wyoming in some places you can still see the old method of haying using loose haystacks.
