EDI was probably the sole character in ME3 that really grew on a player throughout the game, aside from Commander Shepard. Joker's relationship with EDI was one of the relationships that I was hoping I would be able to save, but could not.
The lighting of the scene, along with the dimming of the quantum processors in the background (VERY GOOD attention to minute details) really illustrates the mood of Joker as the loss of EDI brought darkness into Joker's life. All in all, Joker lost someone he cared deeply for and knew there was no way to bring her back. Sharing the affection they had for each other really brought impact to this picture. EDI dying in Joker's arms signifies the loss that comes from ending the war with the Reapers.
Another thing to consider for this picture is that Joker should not be able to hold EDI's body in his arms, given his current medical condition and EDI's mass. Despite that, Joker still wanted to hold EDI in his arms, despite his ailments. Very astute vision there, sir!

The rendering is what I have come to love about your Mass Effect works, flawless.
I really like the way you capture Joker's reaction to this possible ending scenario. Honestly before this I had never considered the players choice of ending on the character of EDI. This piece helped me appreciate a game and game series I love more that I otherwise would have.
The detailing in the background and foreground is very good and the characters are true to their in game counterparts but far more detailed, which I really appreciate about all your work.
Thank you for helping me see this possible ending in a new light.

Une fois n'est pas coutume, c'est une très belle oeuvre que tu nous propose aujourd'hui. Visuellement, ce n'est peut-être pas la meilleure (je reste amoureuse de tes versions de Tali et Nyreen), mais c'est sûrement l'une des plus poignantes...
Pour ma part, la fin Destruction est la seule fin pour ma Shepard : elle s'est battue la majorité de son existence contre les Moissonneurs, et seule leur anéantissement était acceptable... Malgré le lourd prix de l'extinction des synthétiques : les Geths et IDA.
La scène est simple, mais dégage pourtant tellement d'émotion : Joker pleure la perte de celle qu'il avait appris à aimer malgré toutes leurs différences.
Le thème est parfaitement mis en valeur dans la simplicité et la sobriété : pas trop d'effets de lumière ni de détails dans le background, qui permet de souligner la solitude et la détresse de Joker.
L'ensemble est si cohérent et émouvant que j'en oublie que Joker ne pourrait jamais la porter ainsi au risque de se broyer les jambes sous le poids cybernétique de IDA.
Bref, une oeuvre magnifique, comme tu sais si bien les faire ! J'adore !

Une réalisation juste. C'est une scène comme celle-ci qui manque à la fin Destruction de Mass Effect 3. C'est ce qui rend terrible le sacrifice à faire pour sauver l'humanité. Bravo

I'm fully aware that I'm a selfish prick for choosing Destroy so my Shepard can live and reunite with his LI, but I rarely feel bad about it... until now.

Sorry, but ME3 was so depressing and this is one of examples why (although never was big fan of "androidised" EDI). As a very emotional guy I cried more than once and I hate Bioware for ruining ME trilogy in part 3.
Probably Bio did that so fans wouldn't bomb them with demands for ME4.
Still credit, where credit due. As always attention to detail is top notch.

The one thing I don't like about Mass Effect is how a lot of the characters you've come to love can die or have to die at some point.

This is why I hate the Catalyst. Little sh*t didn't gave crap for options. When I got to that point in the game I was like "What the hell? That's it? F*** you." Like why can't their be peace between synthetics and organics. Why couldn't the Catalyst just have the reapers self destruct and leave the damn universe alone??? All the other endings were just TOTAL BS options. Control could go sideways down the road. Synthesis is forced and unnatural. Destroy... not such a great way to end things considering the Quarians can live a life of peace if the geth continued to exist. What the hell was the point of saving them and giving then intelligence, if all we're gonna end up doing is wiping them out???

Oh man this is brutal. I chose destroy, and I stand by it as the right choice. I think Jeff and EDI both knew the score. I think EDI even hinted about it. This kind of makes it hit home when you talk to Garrus and he mentions the "ruthless calculus of war."

I've never liked EDI as a character much, but I always felt sorry for Geth and Quarians in that ending. They just settled peace and Geth were improving Quarian immune systems... Yet I always choose destruction. A no-compromise sort of ending for me. Control feels like a loop (who can say that Shepard won't forget their humanity and become crazy in the future, no better than the Catalyst) or Synthesis (feels so cheesy to me). Then, there's always refusal, but I can't force myself to go that way. I'm already sick of those "everyone dies" endings which are in abundance in my native literature, no need to bring that to videogames too.

this is the only reason I didn't want to chose the "red version". EDI dead? heck no. I'm more of a pack family guy then universal guy. "the needs of many..." yeah, bullshit. I take care of the ones that are closest to me. my family, my pack. I'd be damned if I'd let EDI die. I'd rather sacrifice myself and control the Reapers.

I sent the Reapers to Kingdom Come. Though I realize EDI would be destroyed, there are like what, 10,000 scientists who just completed the Crucible that are now out of a job... that could rebuild EDI right lol? Not to mention Liara (The Shadow Broker), or Tali (Foremost authority on AI i.e. the Geth) could definitely help.

Thanks for this. I can't stand people who are saying stuff like "destruction is the only right choice"... yeah, deciding to fuse organics and synthetics is bad without their consent, but killing off one of them without so much as a warning is perfectly fine to them...
The moment I had the star-child explain destruction, the first thing I thought "thats 1 option off the list, I have 3 choices which I'm unsure off, but 1 certainly kills some of my character's friends and his friend's (Joker's) chance for happiness with EDI". So thanks, Other 2 choices I'm still unsure of, but destruction is just no-way, i'm not gonna let it happen.

Its an old comment but still i would choose Destroy. Sometimes you can't save all of your soldiers. Remember what Anderson said in ME3 "A good leader is someone who values the life of his men over the success of the mission. But understands that sometimes, the cost of failing a mission is higher than the cost of losing those men.”
I consider changing everyones DNA or creating an AI to "protect" races that didn't need protection at all, as a failed mission. Thats not why the races build the Crucible...
This fight was not about keeping the romance between your crew, it was about survival. Blame the Reapers for the geth's death. Shepard didn't get much options.

I wouldn't have wanted to, I seriously planned it from the beginning. But then I got Joker and EDI together and EDI thanked me for finally feeling alive and I just couldn't do it anymore.

Awesome pic! Really captures how Joker would initially react to Edi's death. I figure if Shep goes with the destroy ending it'd be a good thing he/she's dead, because Shep just committed genocide (Geth and freefoem AI's), crippled the recovery of several species (Quarians most notably) and murdered the woman he loves.

Destruction was only logical way out. All fleet fought not for beeing syntetic or new "shepard-god" but becaouse they want reapers disappear.

I chose destruction. EDI's robot body was the thing that got me to play ME, but in the end I had to keep my pimp hand strong.
