I have an idea for a plot, and I've been working on it for a while now, so I wanted to ask someone about their opinion on it, so if you could please tell me if you like it or not, I'd be grateful:

Wren Vandermark is a girl at the tender age of 14 when something terrible happens. Her and her friends Jane and Luke were walking through the small town they lived in. Wren was told specifically by her blind father to not go too far from the town, but the did anyways and went to the river. Though the water was a beautiful blue, and everything seemed normal, when Wren stands on the small dock, it deteriorates under her feet and she falls into the water. She, not being too keen on swimming, flailed about and thrashed to get to the top, but her foot got caught in some river-plants. At some point, when Luke pulls her out, she is immediately sent to the hospital because her legs were almost gone. Her flesh was melted off and left burnt muscle and bones. At the doctors office, she has surgery done to get rid of some of the poison in her body, which doesn't work out too great. She eventually is forced to go to a mental asylum because the poison was predicted to reach her brain through her bloodstream and give her a severe case of psychosis.

I really like the book. It sounds original, different than what I've read before. It makes a person think

As ~Isteelurfoodz  pointed out, I was also curious about the kind of poison, but I saw the answer.

I'm not a professional or anything, I'm just a person who really likes reading and I would definitely read this book.

Thank you Just because of this reply, I'm going to  get back onto writing that book. It's been a while and I've been making a bunch of other plot lines, but I think I'll pick that one back up.

(Hi, I'm also a writer and have some feedback)

I feel it is a great idea! Just the intro of getting poisoned by the water caught me on. Getting sent to a mental asylum is even better, that (perhaps) she never goes crazy and just sent there because. It is a great way (and very original way) to send a character off somewhere. As most classic stories it is just the parent who says "go there", here, it was her own choices that sent her here.

Two things do pop out in this story that may need a bit of work. One, you may have to research a type of poison that actually does make you go crazy instead of kill you on the spot. Currently, I can think of none (unless this is like a new chemical X or something)

The second thing, is why is her father blind? Is there really any large significance behind it (that you may not be posting here), do you want us to have sympathy for him? Or is it that you don't want him seeing her sneak out. Either way, there are other things you can do that are not so extreme.

All in all, this looks like an amazing idea! There are so many open roads that you can take, such as she sees someone she knows at the asylum, or that she has to escape the asylum with a bad leg (or one leg if she loses the other to surgery). Another thing that may be interesting, is that this case was a set up. Such as someone told her that there was going to be a party there at the river (to lure your main character down) they could have tampered with the bridge that breaks and be the ones to put the poison in the water (if it is a still waterbed)

Great idea! And best of luck!

Seven-deadly-turtles In reply to Isteelurfoodz [2013-07-22 04:21:27 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for this review ^^

And yes, her father's blindness is supposed to be significant to the wealth of their family and how they're able to pay the fare for the asylum. He was blinded at work the day before his retirement and therefore he was given money plus medical care for that. And for the chemical, I was thinking about sulfur tetrafluoride.

I was also thinking of it being toxic waste that was poured into the river by a specific company, and have the story involve forensic scientists test the water and figure out which company pours the junk into the water and have an entire campaign against that company. It's supposed to be a very depressing book, because like it is in real life, Wren is the reason for the campaign but nobody actually doing these things really cares about what happens to her, or that it was her choice to do that. And like how it is in reality how Wren doesn't want these people all in her business.

I dunno, I just thought I would try and add some other things in there, but I know for a fact that I want Wren to die in the end of the book, but I'm still deciding on whether it be because of the terminal illness or because her psychosis forces her to think that she can walk on air and walks off of a cliff with confidence.

Thank you a ton!!
