So, I saw RENT for the first time a few weeks ago. I had NO idea of what to expect going into it. I knew what it was generically about and I knew a few songs from it (like Seasons of Love, Take me or Leave me, and One Song Glory) but nothing more. But I have to say, I enjoyed it. I can't say I liked the subject matter or some of the lyrics of the songs but I LOVED the music! It was all so catchy and the harmonies were the kind that give you chills because they are so good.
I felt bad for all the characters, as well. They all are artists who long to express themselves and find love but are too deep in their sin to fix things (with their drug use, sex, AIDS, etc.) I find it rather sad, really. They live in poverty, not knowing how long they have left, but it is their own doing that they live in such conditions and are addicted to sinful pleasures of the world and cannot escape.
I found Roger to be my favorite character. I'm not really sure why. Maybe it was his transformation as a character, or his rebellious nature. Idk. He also sang good songs and had an amazing voice!

This drawing is based off Will Chase as Roger (from the last Broadway production of RENT) mixed with a little bit of Aaron Tveit (the tattoos). I know he is supposed to have something on his shirt, but I was too lazy to replicate it. I really liked the guy who played Roger in the local production I saw and I think he's my favorite but I enjoyed Will Chase's interpretation of the character, as well (and I love his voice). I've been wanting to practice my drawing of people but I never know who to draw! So, I decided to draw some of my favorite characters from some of my favorite musicals and other shows! So expect some theater fan art for a bit
