What better way to emphasize the noise than to project the image across the frozen tundra of Antarctica. It sets you right there, in the blueness and whiteness.

and nothing seems the way it was

This is one of my favorite parts. It fits with the final image of Antarctica, like the slowly moving glacier ("nothing seems the way it was" or a tip of an iceberg ("nothing is ever the way it seems". Plus, these things one wouldn't normally associate with noise, so it's an extended oxymoron.. and I likey.

when i write something liek this i step back and look at it and think 'o thats nice' i never think about my writing the way you do [which is a shame but i think your comments are helping me to learn]
