Description Cogston Bookbreaka dragged his oldest child by the hand as she looked up at the dark smokestacks with splayed ears.  Since she could remember, Brashley could see them stretching across the sky, matched only in height with Mount Kajaro.  They crowded the industrial district that surrounded the entrance to the Undermine, and in the underground city waited one of her father's many "contacts."

"Ain't no point spendin' good macaroons on schoolin' for a retard like you's, kiddo," Cogston grumbled, giving her arm a rough jerk as Brashley slowed her pace to look around  She stumbled slightly and kept following, picking up the slouched-over gait she had adopted to try and put off her height.

"Sorry Pops, I's was jus'…" She was quickly cut off by the bark of her father.

"Lookit ya!  Jus' like your bimbo of a motha.  But at least that bitch had some looks, ya know?  You's is sure lucky you's got some muscle awn ya, kid.  You's can at least make a career of the mines, help the friggin' family out that way, 'stead of bein' just a woithless retard who can't count none.  Who eva heard of that?  A gob who's bad wit numbas.  S'friggin' embarrassin' to cawl you my issue, I's swear."  Brashley huffed and perked her ears attentively.

"Don' worry, Pops.  I's will woik extra hard an' get some macaroons home to ya, I's promise! You's won't be disappointed."

"Well, you's betta.  Or Imma have to sell awf Tommy."  Cogston glanced back to see Brashley's grey eyes widen in fear at the thought of being separated from her youngest brother.  He had always been somewhat sickly, and always had been close to his big sis.  The goblin grinned widely to see Brash's lip pout out and her face become determined.

"I will!  You's let Tommy know I's is lookin' out for him!" she proclaimed, taking a tighter grip on the pick in her hands.

"If I's didn' love you kids so much, I's woulda sold you's awf LONG ago.  You's awl is a buncha lucky lil ingrates, ya hear me?" he grumbled, and his daughter nodnodded as quickly as she could as she followed him down into the Undermine.  Brashley didn't mind being pulled from school, she had never done very well and her father was right, the money was wasted on her when it could go to the other issues.  The other kids were pretty mean, too.  It didn't help that right after grade school she shot up two feet and towered over the adults, making it near impossible to avoid the attention.

"Yes, Pops.  I's know," she replied immediately.  Cogston shoved an envelope into her hands once they reached the first sub level, and pointed over to a mining outfit at the edge of the bustling cavern.

"You's go in there, ask for Plixt.  He's gonna be expectin' you's, so hurry the fuck up.  Oh."  He crossed his arms and glared up at his daughter.  "Don't'cha give him a hard time, eitha.  You's is gonna have to woik ya way up from the bottom, ya know.  Now go, move, MOVE."  Brashley scampered away from Cogston as he turned and stormed away, meekly opening the door to Kajaro Subcontracting, Inc.  The fat goblin behind the desk perked an ear, but didn't bother to open an eye.

"Whacha want?" he grumbled, and Brashley quietly cleared her throat before standing up tall.

"Mista Plixt, sir, my fatha is Cogston Bookbreaka, I's is-"

"Here for that jawb, right?  Hope you's can take ordas well," he grunted, a hand dropping to his belt to loosen it with a chuckle.  Sitting up, he took a long look at the girl before him, his eyes staring at her midsection for a long moment before following her height up to her face and blinking in surprise.  "You's is…nawt what I's expected at awl," he growled quietly, buckling his pants again with a sigh.  Massaging the bridge of his nose, he waved Brashley off.  "At least you's look like you's can swing a pickaxe.  Go outside.  There'sa team of trolls waitin'…they will show ya the ropes."  Brashley nodded quickly and held her pick tightly as she smiled.

"Thank you's, sir, I's really-" again, she was cut off, this time by a flailing hand shooing her out the door.

"Shaddap an' get to woik, since that seems to be awl you's is good for.  I's will get the insurance papers ready…welcome to Kajaro Subcontractin', fella," he sighed, slamming the door behind him.
