Description A friend of mine told me that while he was in Japan (no idea why, possibly for the hell of it) he saw a bunch of American tourists dressed up as Final Fantasy characters "battling" on the sidewalk. When he asked a few people witnessing this, most of them said they hated it, and thought it was stupid. Japan isn't some type of mystical wonderland of anime and pocky, it's a REAL place with REAL people, and the last thing they need to deal with is some lunatic in a costume waving around a cheap plastic weapon. Of course I'm only making assumptions that this happens based off of what a friend who visited Japan told me, so what the hell do I know?

I'm a little conflicted on this. I mean, I'll admit that American Otaku can be annoying, but on the other hand, maybe they're just enthusiastic about Japanese culture and it's not really fair to put them down because of it...I don't know...

I love how the guy on the right looks all like " This brings shame to my country, curture and famiry"
Totally expect him to whip out his own sword, make short worth of every guy trying to look like anime characters and commit samurai style suicide.

I completely understand! I love anime yes, but i also love Japans culture and what not so i wouldn't go just to be a nerd, the nerdness is for the conventions and trips to walmart (XD jk) If i were in actual towns, that should be spent enjoying the new place and absorbing all that is enlightening about Japan.
Very funny! XD I love it

That was more Japan's intense conservatism, ingrained traditions, hilariously shitty small arms designs and general derpyness. More Japanese were killed by their own infantry weapons and tactics than the a-bomb.Β

True dat. But I was saying that they are the people that makes me think that the Untied states lost world war II. Though you do bring up a good point.

ScrewfaceRomeo In reply to Toon-Resurrection92 [2014-05-30 21:46:34 +0000 UTC]

I'm confused... While the US did play a much smaller part in winning the war than our propaganda, I'm sorry, history classes, would have us believe (really, it was the Soviets that did most of the work), I would hardly say we lost. And we certain carried most of the weight in the Pacific, though ANZAC forces and the Ghurkas deserve credit as well.

That's true and that's not true. I lived in Japan and everyone has different opinions on any topic--I mean, how homogeneous can you get before it's too much? Some people have fun dressing up (whether seriously or like idiots) and some can look at it and laugh while others can scorn it. The only way to get passed it all is to just accept both sides and move on.
