Description Pencil crayon sketch I made for my sister when she was going on a trip to Australia a few years back.
At the time, she had the biggest crush on the actor Jason Isaacs, so the night before she was flying out, I drew this sketch in the travel journal I'd purchased for her as a sort of parting gift/surprise for her when she opened it on the plane!
Memories!

What a gorgeous gift!

I'd have been sighing over the pic and the lack of the Captain here (we are tragically short of beautiful pirates in Oz)  instead of taking notice of my holiday, lol.

Aw thanks!
The majority of my scans are technically unfinished works, aside from the two acrylic beach paintings I made for my Grandmas and the Dire Wolves pencil sketch.
I have a bad habit of starting up new sketches/paintings/whatever before completing what I was previously working on.
Tsk, tsk!
My sisters are *always* scolding me for it - and I don't blame them.
It's a ridiculously bad habit.
Thank you for the compliment Orions! Love your deviant name, btw!

Thank you so much! Yeah, as I recall (from all the way back in 2005), she was pretty emotional about it on the phone to me once she finally got to her destination.
Oooh...I should totally scan my Lucius-as-a-Rock-Star sketch I did for her of Jason Isaacs (as his Harry Potter character Lucius Malfoy)...it's too hilarious.
*runs to get sketchbook*

It's those kind of personalized gifts they always remember, far more, say, than a toy, a videogame, or some clothes.

And the art looks great, too. A double win, I'd say.

Thank you cluedog!
I've been sort of trying to make it a tradition for the last few years (especially for my Grandmas at Christmas and for their birthdays) to give handmade gifts as well as a little bought something or other.
The drawings/paintings always go over well and it makes me so happy just seeing their reactions.
My paternal Grandmother is 93 and in an assited care living home currently and I try to do as much artwork for her as I can find time to produce, because her health has been gradually declining over the last couple of years, so it's all the more important to make the time she has left all the more memorable.
At least that's what I'm striving to do.
I love my Grandma! (clearly)...

93? That's an amazing age to be. None of my grandparents are alive, let alone lived that long. My dad is 74, so I know exactly how you feel when it comes to worrying about an elderly parent or grandparent.

Well, here's to you getting to make many more drawings for her in the years to come.

Thanks cluedog - I certainly hope that'll be the case.
My Dad thinks she could go at any time. But she's suprisingly, super resilient. She survived quadruple bypass heart surgery...and that was 20 years ago!
She'll outlive us all! That's what I always say.
I hope you don't have to worry about any elderly relatives in the near (or even distant) future too!
Worrying stinks...give you wrinkles! J/k..
