This is great! It does seem meant to be that you combine these styles. I love how Ginko and the plants in the foreground take up so little of the picture, and how the lines of the mountains mimic those of Ginko's cigarette smoke.

Actually, the opening page of many of Mushishi manga series is drawn in the washed-out ink style, so may be I had it stored somewhere at the corner of my mind... anyways, I am kinda pleased with how it turned out to be

That's true! I have only read volume one so far, so I still have much of the series to explore. I do own the anime, but haven't watched much. Which do you prefer?

I've read all the manga and I have the anime too. I watch it pretty often - a series or two at random, depending from my mood. I like the subdued colors of it a lot, and the atmosphere. The music by Matsuda Toshio adds a lot to it, too.
My interest to this anime is also remarkable since I am a big fan of action, fights, bad guys, or at least some heroic characters - and Mushishi doesn't have anything even close to all this stuff
So I'd definitely recommend the anime. But manga has some episodes that never were made into the anime series, so it makes sense to at least look through it too.
The thing I would NOT recommend is the live-action Mushishi movie. Joe Odagiri is incredibly handsome, of course, but one good actor is not enough to save the film

Yeah, there's a movie... with Joe Odagiri as I said, and though he makes a cute (but not so true to the manga/anime) mushishi, all and all the movie .... sucks
Though, personally, I see "real life" Ginko something close to Wataru Ujihara from DOES by the face type - low mouth like and all; not cute at all - but strangely attractive.
Good idea to bring the anime along! It's sorta... calming. The series, I mean. I dunno how to put it better, but the idea is that it gives this strange thing of being absolutely alone in the world and beibg fine with it; an ultimate loneliness, if you want... it's a good thing.

Actually, it's very entertaining thing to trace the anime face types prototypes in the real world... It was one of my favorite games in Japan. Ones I was riding in a Metro car with Seiji Amasawa standing on one side of me, and Inspector Zenigata on the other.... It's a pity that no one could guess why I was smiling like crazy
By the way, speaking of Wataru Ujihara... DOES is a great group, I highly recommend it.
