Description
Once upon a time, on a lonely hillside, there was an old man who always wished to look younger. This man's name is Mr. Natox. Ever since he retired to his quaint cottage in the hillside, he has been looking for the panacea of old age. One day, when Mr. Natox was taking his midday stroll, he came across a dog and a chicken talking. Wait a second, something is wrong. A dog and a chicken talking, that is impossible! Mr. Natox thought.
"I'm telling you, it's me, Henry!" the dog barked, "Remember that book we found? Well, when I sat on it, I wished to be stronger than every chicken in our coop. And…Poof! Here I am, a DOG!" The chicken stared in disbelief, until he spotted Mr. Natox, also staring, from the corner of his eye.
"Um…" The chicken gulped, "Dog, I mean, um, Henry…" the dog, which was apparently called Henry, turned around to see what the chicken was fretting over.
"It's a HUMAN!! RUN!!" they shouted in unison; then both animals ran away like the chickens they were.
Mr. Natox stood there for a few minutes in disbelief; then he slowly walked back to his house. When he arrived at his cottage, he slumped against the wall, thinking about what happened. I must be crazy, he thought a dog and a chicken talking! Mr. Natox ran through his memory, trying to figure out what was wrong with him. He started muttering repeatedly under his breath, "What's wrong with me?" Then it struck him. A book! They were talking about a magical book! Mr. Natox thought. A book which you may wish upon as if it were a star! I must find this book! Mr. Natox concluded.
During the following months, Mr. Natox searched far and wide for this magical book without much success. After three months of searching, Mr. Natox was extremely dispirited that he deemed the book intangible when he came upon a clue.
Mr. Natox was in the Aliso Viejo Library, researching the magical book when he came across a beautiful tome. This scholarly book was colorful, with pictures of mythical creatures on the cover. At the top, the word Magic was written in shimmering gold. Mr. Natox opened this ethereal book and came across a page titled Livre Magique. This is what I have been looking for, Mr. Natox thought. He read the page meticulously, letting the words sink into his mind, "…With a touch and a wish, anything is possible…from poor to rich, starving to full, pauper to prince, only a few of the possible wishes you can make." Mr. Natox read. He had been savoring every detail, imagining the possibilities when he came across a small drawback, "…Location: unknown…" He stared at the page with great disappointment, thinking, the first clue I find to finally be young again ended up leading me nowhere! Mr. Natox was about to slam the book shut in frustration when he came upon the most important detail he could find, "…a drab, ugly book that uses its appearance to disguise its true nature…" This is why I haven't found it. I have been looking for a god among books! Mr. Natox realized. However, the location is unknown. Where should I look next? Mr. Natox reasoned. He stood there thinking when he realized he knew where the book was all along. With a new excitement and understanding, Mr. Natox left the library to search for the most likely place a chicken would be.
It was a beautiful and sunny day in the forest. A middle-aged man appeared out of the trees, reflecting on his unsuccessful and unhappy life. I wish my brother was still here with me. I remember taking walks through this forest; I never imagined living here! The hermit, Vikitiki, thought. Suddenly, Vikitiki heard a crackling noise that jerked him out of his thoughts. Vikitiki hid behind a tree a few seconds before an old man materialized out of nowhere. The old man appeared to be looking for something; he was raking through the leaves that littered the forest floor and looked behind every tree.
The old man, blindly pushing aside any vegetation on the forest floor, ran head first into a tree. Yowling in pain, he sat up, rubbing his throbbing head, when a fairly large book fell from a branch, hitting the old man square on the back. Vikitiki ran to go help the stranger. The old man picked up the book, grumbling in pain, "Hrmph, I wish my back wouldn't hurt as much." Vikitiki was just about to help him up when the old man said, "My back! It's a miracle!" Looking at the book, the elderly man said with realization, "This must be what I was searching for, Livre Magique.
Livre Magique! This is what my brother had searched for all his life! The lonely hermit realized. He stared at the book in wonder and watched mysterious events unfold before his eyes.
Mr. Natox lifted Livre Magique and said, "I wish I could look as young as I did twenty years ago." The book glowed and opened to a page titled Youth. From the book came a doctor with a small kit with Botox written on the front.
"Hello Mr. Natox," the doctor said with a commercial voice, "Do you wish that you could look twenty years younger without using a penny in your pocket?" Mr. Natox nodded, jaws agape in amazement. "Ok," the doctor continued as a reclining chair appeared in front of chair, looking relaxed and calm. The doctor set his kit down on a small table, also from the book, and took out an injector, some cotton swabs, and a small glass container holding a clear liquid. The doctor injected the clear liquid into Mr. Natox's face. However, this gave Mr. Natox a serious allergic reaction. The old man's face began to distend like a giant blimp. Screaming, Mr. Natox turned to the doctor and said, "WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME?!"
"You made a wish and I granted it. You wished to look twenty years younger and I gave you Botox." The doctor said innocently.
Mr. Natox, his screaming exacerbating the swelling of his face, demanded that the doctor cure his face. The doctor replied, "I know how to apply Botox, but I do not know how to cure allergic reactions to it."
Mr. Natox screamed in rage, "I could have spent time doing something beneficial instead of trying to find this stupid book." He threw the magical book at the nearest tree, making everything that came out of the book disappear, and ran to the nearest hospital.
Mr. Natox had unknowingly thrown the book at the tree Vikitiki was hiding behind. Waiting until Mr. Natox was out of sight, Vikitiki stepped out from behind the tree and gingerly picked up the worn out, old book. Vikitiki stared at the book, thinking of possible wishes. He closed his eyes and saw his brother's face. No, I should not wish for my brother to come back to life that might mess up the time and space continuum. Besides, I do not want to make a bad wish like that elderly man did, he thought. Vikitiki looked around and saw the forest that was his home. He was used to being lonely and starving but sometimes he remembered being surrounded by people and never having to wonder when he was going to eat again. Carefully choosing his words, Vikitiki said, "I wish I had some more money!"
For a few seconds, nothing happened. Vikitiki was about to walk away in disappointment when he felt a gut wrenching sensation; one moment Vikitiki was in the forest and the next moment, he was in a throne room. Vikitiki looked at the magical book in his hands and saw that it opened to a page titled Money. Suddenly, the book burped out a crown which landed at Vikitiki's feet. He stared at the crown in shock; then he looked at his surroundings and his brown eyes lit with realization.
"I didn't wish to be a king; I wished I had some more money!" Vikitiki shouted to no one in particular. The book glowed as it burped out a small letter that landed at Vikitiki's feet. Vikitiki bent down to pick it up and read: I know you wished to have more money. This is why I made you a prince; those belonging to royal famalies are the richest people in the world. Vikitiki picked up the crown, looking at it with shock. I'm a… prince? He looked at the magical book, thoughts running through his mind, Am I really a prince? Taking a peek out of the window, he saw many people walking around from stand to stand, shop to shop, buying and selling goods. Picking up the crown, he saw his reflection in the shimmering gold and precious stones. "It must be true! I am a prince!" Vikitiki shouted with excitement.
A moment later, the giant door to the room he was in opened, and a tall, strong man said in a deep voice, "Are you alright, my lord? I heard you screaming. Is anything out of order?"
"No, everything is alright. Er… who are you?"
"My lord, you don't recognize me. I'm Bob, you're bodyguard and advisor." The man said in a reverent tone.
"Oh, that is right. Now I remember. Um…"
"My lord, it is almost one o'clock. It's time for your press conference about the economy. Oh… um… you should probably put that book down before you come to the press conference."
"Ok." Vikitiki said as he put the Livre Magique down on the throne and went to follow Bob.
The following months were hectic and stressful for Prince Vikitiki. He had to meet with his group of advisors to discuss what to do about the economy, war, immigration, budget, and other political topics. He had to hear his subjects' complaints weekly, have press conferences, and many other things. All of the unabated tasks Prince Vikitiki had to do eventually overwhelmed him.
One day, while Bob was telling Prince Vikitiki what he was going to be doing today, Vikitiki cracked under the responsibility and stress.
"How am I supposed to do a hundred different tasks in twenty four hours?" Vikitiki asked Bob.
"You are a prince. Isn't this what you wanted?" Bob replied.
Vikitiki was about to go into a tirade when he realized that Bob was partially right. He was a prince, but this wasn't what Vikitiki wanted. Vikitiki wanted a better and more successful life and he thought the only way to get this better and more successful life was to have more money. So Vikitiki went the easy way out and wished for more money, but this was the wrong thing to do. He should have taken steps to get the type of life he wanted. This doesn't mean you shouldn't dream or wish for things you desired. You should dream and wish and try to make these dreams and wishes possible without going the easy way out. Vikitiki realized what he had to do to get the type of life he wanted.
Vikitiki, realizing his mistake, searched the kingdom to find Livre Magique so he would be able to return to his old life. Eventually, he found out that the book was thrown away, mistaken for a useless notebook, for the pages, unless the book was wished upon, were blank. Oh, no! Vikitiki thought, I'll NEVER be able to go back to my life before the wish! After thinking long and hard about his situation, Vikitiki decided to continue searching for Livre Magique, specifically in every trashcan and landfill.
Eventually, he found the book in a large dumpster behind his castle. Vikitiki held up the book and wondered how it could have looked pure and good to him before, but now it gave off a wicked aura. "I wish my life was same as it was before I wished to have some more money." Prince Vikitiki shouted.
A moment later, Vikitiki felt the same gut wrenching sensation. He closed his eyes for a brief second, then opened them to find himself back in his beloved forest. He looked down and saw the book in his hands. Vikitiki returned home, lit his furnace, then burned the magical book. Now no one will have to go through what I did, Vikitiki thought while watching Livre Magique burn to ashes.
During the following years, Vikitiki was able to get a good job, buy himself a nice home in the city, marry a kind woman, and be the father of four children. He lived the rest of his life the way he imagined it when he was a little boy. Mr. Natox was able to get his face cured. He went back to his home and accepted that he would always look old. Mr. Natox lived the rest of his life in peace and happiness. In the end, everyone lived happily ever after.
