My Idealized OoT Shield is Complete!The base for the shield was begun in 2009, over the past 2 weeks (Spring Break) I have finally made the time to finish it.
The Shield facing:
-A base form was created using cardboard, then three layers of fiberglass were laid on top and trimmed creating a shell.
-Spots, holes, gaps, and low areas were filled with bondo and sanded smooth.
-Raised details were created with .40 & .60 styrene sheets. The hooks were modeled with Epoxy Putty.
-The "Lip" was created by outlining the edges with balsa strips, and were filled with Bondo/Resin "mud".
-Testors Spray enamel blue, Enamel red, and Rustoleum Metallics were used for color.
I may update this picture with a photo of the back as well:
-Constructed with cherry-stained Basswood.
-Measured, and counter-sunk into the back of the "shield shell"
-Edges were walled off, and then filled with "mud", attaching the back permanently to the front.

this is a good shield , i tryed once but, i make a extra flat thing , with cardboard (2 pieces) 6 layers of glue and paper and newspaper (wrist handlers)
and crayons for the colors (its looks like an sick shield than a hylian one ) and is strong as a wall (i accidentaly walk over it and nothing happened)
keep it up , you are great maybe you can do a halo costume

Looks a lot more realistic than the other Hylian Sheilds I've seen. How did you make it round with the fiberglass? By sanding?
Either way it's pretty much awesome. I like that it looks a little more run down and not so spit and polished. Makes it feel that much more realistic.

Hey man, I actually found this from your youtube video when it got posted on Reddit. This is absolutely brilliant! Any chance for you to have an instructable on how you made it? I would love to try and make one....maybe throw in some battle damage

Hm, I have never used Instructable...
We'll see. I have enough pictures to produce a tutorial but the write-up would take some time.

its slow going. and I did a sculpting party last night over tinychat which was cool. It was cool to see her working on hers which is phenomenal and she gave me a lot of tips on it too.
