The Story is Very disjointed and all over the place and hard to follow. the Art is inconsistent there is a part where Alex is going to a Dance Club and her face is just awful for most of the conversation then gets better with the last shot of her. Alex herself reminds me of a bad Jessica jones copy who drinks and has a huge amount of pills she takes. we don't know why the Witchblade picked her or how she even got it when we meet her she just has it and from reading the first 4 books we still have no clue as to how she got it. almost every man is seen as evil even the one guy who does try to help her is cloaked in darkness. every man is portrayed as a faceless evil just waiting to hurt Alex. from what we do see of the actual Witchblade armor itself looks awful and it looks nothing like armor. we first see it really on the virgin variant cover for issue # 1 and she looks like a victoria secrets model with a push-up bra with spiderman's webs covering her vag. it's a nice work of art, but it's not the Witchblade armor. the armor was something that was scary as well as elegant so the original is still the best.

then in Issue 4 when we do see it Alex is upside down underwater and it looks more like Glowing Green Nuclear seaweed that again does not look like armor it just looks weird. also for some reason instead of using living blades like Sara or Dani the suit becomes ghost hentai tentacles that again are glowing green. the whole thing just seems like a really bad joke. Alex herself does not act like a person when she first meets ash if I'm remembering right and he tells her about the Witchblade she does not respond by asking him how he knows her or anything like how he knows about her visions or the Witchblade just nothing.

Ron Marz did a damn amazing job making everyone feel human and the interactions felt natural. witchblade is supposed to be like a blend of fantasy and detective stories, but Alex is not a detective at all and she is just bland.

the book is also written by Caitlin Kittredge who in an interview in the very first Issue says there was never a female's input on Witchblade when that was a lie considering Christina z wrote the first 30-40 issues of the original book and it was downright disrespectful for someone who says's they are a feminist to just disavow or not even acknowledge her work. she also does not even consider the many female fans including my girlfriend as well as my ex-girlfriend who both loved Sara and grew up reading her who did have input because they paid for and supported the old Witchblade books. another problem I have is her saying she wanted to do a "modern feminist" Take. Third-wave Feminism is not Feminism. she even clearly say's in the interview she is not a fan and knows nothing about the book and only saw it when she was a teenager a few times. I think the core of what made Witchblade what it was is gone and it's now been replaced with a husk of what it once was bearing the name. she talks about how Sexualized Sara was and even brings up the Male Gaze, something that I think is pure BS because I have been reading Witchblade since I was 5 or 6 and when you're a little boy the last thing you're thinking about is sex I just thought Sara was really cool. not to mention during the war for the Witchblade storyline Sara was in full armor and it looked bad ass so I have no idea what this person is even talking about.

I have loads of problems with this book from the writer & her politics as well as the agenda she is trying to push. the slow story that just seems to drag on and on painting all men as evil in the shadows. Alex herself being almost like a self-insert for Caitlin then the Disrespect towards the original female writer of Witchblade. it's not your fault and you do a good job  I just really hate everything about this book and what it stands for. as a long time fan of Witchblade and someone who loves both Sara and Dani as well as all the other bearers from the tales of the Witchblade books I can say without a doubt these first four books are pure garbage. it also angers me that Topcow would print this awful reboot and are even bringing out a volume for it, but won't reprint any of the older volumes. I would gladly give them money for the older stuff if they actually just start printing them again. sorry for this long post, but there is a lot of ground to cover..i love Topcow but the one i grew up and fell in love with is dead. BTW don't take this the wrong way I mean no Disrespect to the work you have put into this, but I feel your talents are wasted here and would be better served on Great books with amazing Stories and great writers that want to write good well told comic books and not twilight fanfiction.
