Personality:

Very polite and well bred, Iandu is a gentleman in every sense of the word. Though his blood is not as royal as some, he always acts with respectful politeness, and keeps his dignity. He had difficult with his self image when he was under his foster-mother and half-brother's disparaging influences, but since than he's learned to enjoy the company of his fellow guards and - more importantly - respect himself. When he's with the other gaurds he'll try and throw around insults and combacks, but he's not very good at it (having been taught from a young age that this was not the behavior of a proper stag). He does have a more acerbic side to his personality, but it really only shows itself around his friends (particularly Ralin) where he is far looser with his tongue.

Being a traditionalist like his father, Iandu carries a deep fear (as well as hatred) of Blackwoods, and considers pale males and dark does unseemly; however, unlike some, he isn't violent or outspoken about his views. He is also a very protective stag, keen to take care of those who cannot take care of themselves. But on the same hoof, he is very slow to trust and doesn't often share aspects of himself with others.

Somewhat untraditionally, he has no interest in siring fawns of his own unless he finds The One. This is because he doesn't quite know what to do with himself around fawns - he's fine watching them from a distance, but if left alone with one he'd be internally terrified and at a loss for what to do. Iandu is also terrified of a fawn growing up to be like him - unwanted by his adoptive mother and brother - and this is another reason he will only breed if he finds a doe that is a fit and gentle mother.

Iandu is a stag that knows his place, and takes no issue with it. He is proud of his father, and his departed mother who is spoken of in nothing but fond terms. He knows he's good at his job, and that he gains respect through it, and that's all that matters in his world. He's not interested in climbing social hierarchies or rutting with princesses.

History: Born the second son of a respected royal guard, Iandu had no idea that his mother was his father's second doe. As a fawn, he was not aware that his father had a first family, or that Iandu had a half brother - though these two facts weighed heavily in how his father raised Iandu. Unlike his half brother, Iandu was trained early on by both his mother and father - from her, he learned how to act appropriately in any situation, and from him, Iandu learned how to protect those in need, and be strong.

One day when Iandu was still very young, his mother was showing her little colt around, and she was cruelly taken from him by a group of renegades posing as Blackwood raiders. Fighting desperately, she thwarted the renegade stags, who had plans to kill the colt and take the doe, until help came (in the form of several gaurds, including Eadwig). Ylliana successfully protected her son, but sadly it was the last expression of her love - she succumbed to her injuries not long afterwards.

After the death of his mother, Iandu's father brought him to Ériu, the mother of the half brother Iandu never knew he had. As required by her mate, the doe took in Iandu, but she performed her duties with a hard heart and even harsher words.
