They can kill young trees, but my tree is established and large enough to handle it. They cluster on the branches to leave interesting spiraling scars. If you reinterested in seeing, there are some photos in my gallery of the clustering and maternal behavior, ( folders labeled: "THORN SERIES" and "Nature").
Other than the interesting scars on the branches, my tree should be as lush and full as it is every spring and summer after the leaf losing period is over. I type "leaf losing period" because here in S. Florida we don't get snow or much of a winter at all. Many plants flower all year long.
