Geezlike! Never mind poor old Sysiphus who had to push the rolling rock up the hill, our man here has to PULL it behind him. hehe.
This is lovely. Its great the way the eye travels up from the slab of rock towards the sculpture rising out of it. Brilliantly architected. Nice lighting as well.

Sheesh Buk! Screw me being a muse for a joke, the work from this show has hit me for six. I've been back a few times now just to look at the images (which is why I haven't posted responses yet). I could quite easily favourite every piece in the show. Even the exhibition shots are fantastic. Glad that you included them, as it gave an overall feel for the whole aesthetic of the show.

This work has to be my favourite, and I would seriously like to buy anyone of the works in the show. When I do make it back over to the Unites States, I will be shipping back some of your work with me. Just have to hope that you haven't become so famous that its beyond my fiscal means!

I don't pretend to know squat about your glazing techniques, but the end results are just captivating. For me their colourings and surface treatments, as well as the simplification of the human form are akin to the hand-held Neolithic period worship objects, Venus of Willendorf, etc. I want to be able to get up close and personal with these works so I can really get to see the detail.

Quite frankly, I feel to be in the presence of greatness.

Fantastic, fantastic show Buk. Buy yourself a bloody beer or three mate, as I can't be there to shout you. YOU DERSERVE IT!!

The presence of good company I like to think. I'm as fond of your work as well. If we lived on the same continet I'd suggest a few trades-Both of us are not millionares (unless you sold more sculpture!) . So we'll have to be content with 2D pictures.

I am very honored myself. Those are wonderful compliments and my huge noggin might not fit through a door jamb now. thanks.

I don't know squat aout glazing technqes either. I just try stuff until it works. I went through about 4 heads per each one that worked. Many of them fired several times. Thats a lot of pottery shards. I have started a heap of head shards in the back yard. It looks like a creepy oyster mound. Mostly I use whatever i can think of. One thats more interesting id regular old soldering flux for sweating copper pipes. That sort of thing.

The beer sounds good. I'll do that.

By the way-you being a muse wasn't a joke. I ment it. Your a good inspiration to me. The work I hope reflects that. I tried to pass it off as a joke cause I didn't want to weird you out. I think you'll be OK with the truth, I am.

Hey, let your head grow I reckon. May take your Nana a bit longer to knit your your beanies, but all that cranial expansion is very much deserved.

I didn't take it as a joke Buk. I feel highly honoured by the fact, and just hope I can give back a little. My fingers are itching to work after seeing your latest show. I've been a lazy arse since Xmas. No more excuses.

People like you, with work like you make, make sure I don't spend (too) long sitting on my haunches contemplating my navel.

bukwessul In reply to KateStehr [2007-02-05 04:50:30 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't worry too much about the navel gazing-leave that to the painters I am looking forward to your next batch. I am anxious to see more and where you are going from here. I think you got some great feed back from folks there (it sounds from all of the positive reviews I hear) Learning from that, what you were working on, and what you've been thinking about will be interesting.

I've been sitting on my ass a bit-in actuality fixing and attending to the things I let slide getting ready for my show. I am going to start my engines this week I hope. I got another show as I told you earlier and I am trying for another in the area. I never thought about it like this, but I look at showing my work as I do fighting now. I used to get really reclusive after a show. I am learning the opposite is more helpful. In a fight, even if you don't want to-you have to push forward even if youd' rather just walk off. It feels good to be on the offense. This attitude/mindset is really helpful. Still getting used to it though-I am quiet and reserved by nature.

My mommy doesn't make beanies for me. I'm sure she would volunteer to knit some at the drop of a hat though.
Speaking of big heads-hows yours?

I appreciate the encouragement. I wrote Noases and told her I would keep trying. I would apprecaite your help. I can't thank you enogh for the encouragement. I live in a fairly rural part of FL and don't get out much anymore, so your feed back is important personally and in a broader sensce.

Additionally I enjoyed the dialog you started with your lichen piececs.

u saw that u have to see it a little bit larger...it is huge...about 90 x 130 cm...and now i create one huge about 6 x 9 m...but the problem is in drawing photography...the texture is so difficult to take a photo, because is large so i need to take a details...which show those "spots" and the structure of them...

aaaaaaaaaaaaaa...thank u for all comments...hm...i think i wrote it too much short......i dont know...i need to discus that with someone...i start a short thought and i lose my self in it because i cant do it by my self......
u are definitely wright about the learning things in school...shape isnt all, line isnt all,...but i just dont know what is it...for sure...this is one of my thinking about it...the god think about it is that i made totally new technique...he he......
well...if u have some time...think about it...it can help to everyone...

and i didnt forget...start with this...[link]
if u need translation say it...

Thanks for the link I will try to translate it.

Larger? Can you use a macro lense and make a few smaller photographs to present the details? Or would that limit the larger piece?

Yes, your thoughts can use more discussion. they are interesting and the subject is important. There will be time for that
Keep up the fire!

if u dont have english version i will translate shortly...but i think u have...and search for sculpture competition...

so if understand...about the pic...the lichen close up...with 2 spots is a little bit larger in nature...i use macro (h3lla) to take a detail...but for this photo is just not god enough representatively...this one is for seeing in live...the effect is more stronger than on the drawing...
pih...

he he...for some time i dont say nothing to them...pih...they teach me to react like that...because they live me alone in everything...almost on all 4 years on college...so everything i know i learn for my self......thats the politic here...it is sad but its true...
anyway i just have to made my final diploma work...so u are teacher???...
maybe i want to be...and i am glad that u said that they dont know everything because it is just like that...for my self i said...i could be the best for plaster...on my some of my teacher named me like "the man of plaster"...so i will not react like i have perfect technique for some other material!...u understand what i want to say?......ups...maybe i complicate now...pih...
and for explanation there is no time...they are just walking egos...hope that i will not be like that one day......

I understand "man of plaster" all of us will be good at our main mediums and that really is the thing we'll know best.
Being a teacher has its' ups and downs. I'm sorry yours haven't been as helpful. I agree on the ego-until that is behind-it is difficult to relate to anyone else. Good observation.

bukwessul In reply to zlaShEEp [2007-01-27 03:39:49 +0000 UTC]

I am rarely satisfied with my students works. I can see peoples potentials pretty clearly now. In addition I can't help but want for the best for them. So my expectations are high for them. Eventually I believe in all of them-some will do better than others, but I am proud of all of them. It is difficult for them, but I encourage them and push them forward as much as they can take.

200 pieces! I am excited for you-that should blow them away! Please include your mentor in this-they can help you and you may not even be able to see it. It is a courtesy if nothing else. I hope you will consider it at least.

Once again- I am excited for you 200 good pieces is a great thing! You should be proud of yourself.

Your Welcome. The exhibition is over and comming down. It was good to do after so long away from work.

The photograher, Eric Blackmore gets credit for the gallery. The space is great, but funds will need to be found to get it looking better on the walls and carpet. The lighting in the gallery is mostly artificial, but with one north skylight to let the reflected light in. The gallery is on Florida Southern Colleges' campus.
