BACKGROUND
=============

Guilt-ridden at abandoning Candace, Jessie turns around to make sure everything is okay - especially after witnessing how chaotic the streets of Dromedary Heights had become just outside the mall!

Meanwhile, the ne'er-do-wells robbing that one store have all been subdued.  Candace "the Lemon Witch" Mason, as the crowds have dubbed her, is being cheered on as a hero.  But not everyone is happy.  A half-man, half-lime can be seen screaming obscenities at her in the distance.  Finally, police arrive and Jessie witnesses Candace apparently surrendering on command.

Candace: "Jessie!  Call my family!"

Jessie: "Holy carolie, Candace!  They're actually taking you in???"

Candace: "They're not mad about me stopping those punks.  They're cheering over that!  But Roger got hurt, and he's not letting it go!"

Jessie: "Roger?"

Candace: "That creep excuse for a mall cop you saw me turn into a lime earlier?"

Jessie: "That was an accident!"

Roger: "Accident, my limey arms!!!  And what you doing back here, shoplifter!?"

Jessie: "Doppelganger!!!  The gal you are looking for went left, bozo!"

Officer: "Ignore him, you two!"

Candace (sighing): "I should never have tried to change him back!"

Officer: "Okay, stretch out your arms, miss!"

Jessie: "The streets are dangerous right now.  If I make a run, I might be able to get somewhere safe and let your dad know what's..."

Candace: "He's missing!!!"

Officer: "Ma'am, calm down!"

Jessie: "Sorry...I'll call your mom and let her know what's going on!"

Candace: "Hurry!  The media is going crazy, and I don't want them coming for you next!"

Jessica didn't need another reminder.  She got out of that mall as soon as she could, as crowds began cheering on the "Lemon Witch" for saving the day, and saying that they'd rally support for her outside the courtroom.

Candace had mixed feelings about this.  Roger, now known by many already as "Officer Lime," said something about how his cousin was the mayor of Dromedary Heights.  Candace was already reasoning that she'd have to accept a plea deal.  There was no way she was gonna not pay for this one!  At the same time, she went from a nobody to an instant celebrity.  But would she and her family be able to survive her newfound fame?

She wanted to cry inside.  Not for herself, but for her mom and little brother.  What was about to happen to them was unfair, and would be nearly unavoidable.  Candace wasn't worried as much about her own fate.  With her new powers - and gloves to help her control them - she was convinced that she could handle prison if she were sent there.  She'd be awfully surprised to meet a prisoner that wouldn't be terrified of her doing as simple a thing as removing her gloves!

Jessie would soon find it very dangerous to make her way home, and would need some help from Cherry Babe.  But eventually, she managed.  She finally gets settled in a few days later, and remembers to alert Amelia to Candace's whereabouts.  The pandemonium has been subdued...though the Gnat has had to work overtime.  There were many casualties, and Dromedary Heights is reeling from all the damage.

Amelia is finally able to secure a visit with her daughter Candace...but not before Candace is railroaded into a 3-year sentence, convicted of Class B felony assault.  However, Candace vows to use the experience - and manual labor assignments - as opportunities to look for clues to solving the mystery of her father's disappearance.  Also, she wants to keep her eyes open for a way that she can help the warden at Camelorum, Stan Woudean, fulfill his promise to rid the world of Xiboruty.
