edit: yes yes, the proportions are messed up - i know. (>_< ) i need to take a class to learn how to do proportions more correctly. i could just use a reference, but in class eye ballin it is the best i can do.

hmm, as to how i made the color effect. actually pretty easy stuff. after the lines are the way you want them, open the channels window, select all the white on the image(it's the button the bottom, far left), then go to select(up top) and choose inverse(this will select all the lines), then make a new layer, go to Edit(up top) and choose Fill(with 100% black). now you have a layer with only your lines on it. now, lock the layer(it's an option in layers that makes it so that you can only draw in the areas you've already drawn in, very useful) and use the gradient tool. that's it. ...nevermind, that's a lot of steps if u've never done it before... umm.. yea. it's not hard, just a little confusing if ur not familiar with the photoshop buttons.

Wow, the elegance, grace, and power in this picture is awesome. His pose is flawless and fitting of an assasin *nod*

Oh and ignore the question on my previous comment, I didn't realize that you had the steps to the gradient effect written in this deviation. Sorry!

I likie! And the detail is awesome! (hint: the tattoo)

And thank yew sooo much! U brought it up: "now you have a layer with only your lines on it". <---how the heck do you do that?

I know that when I begin coloring. I have a layer named Background that's locked. I select the parts for coloring and make them into a new layer. However, I've heard of a way to color that BEGINS with you making your lineart into a layer. How is that done? And why would that be effective?

Do you know? Cause as you can see...I'm clueless...

i like having a layer with just the lines on it because then i can create layers beneath that layer to color on. if u color this way, you will never color over your lines(because they're always beneath the line layer). i also make multiple layers for each section of a part im coloring(for example, a layer just for skin or just for a piece of clothing), it makes it much easier. also, i tend to make layers over the line layer when i'm done to do finishing touches(for example, when i want to draw something over my already existing lines- like a the reflection in the eye). that's basically how i do it. (>_< ) ..but then again, there's a bunch of methods. find the one that's easiest for you!

well, i make a new layer for each section i'm coloring too (ex: skin, hair, shoe, shoe buckle, etc), but I don't know how to create a layer w/just the lineart. How do you do that? It sounds like a neat concept!

Do you draw a lot from life? One of the things that sticks out here (to me) is that his foot is the only part of his body that is twisting. The overall gesture is a bit rigid. But this is coming from someone who likes to nitpick- take it for what its worth.

Urh. Sorry, but something just seems wrong with this picture, his pose just isn't working for me. What I do love is the hair and lighting effects. It reminds me of the final fantasy games covers. Tell me, how did you do it?
Oh, I have a request. When you are less busy would you please do a tutorial on drawing hair. Please.
