Description The Beginning

You can call me Natia Brosca, if you care to. Few did where I come from as I am casteless and do not exist in my own society. However I am now on the surface lands and none here seem to even acknowledge my casteless brand as anything more than a facial decoration.

I’m traveling with a Grey Warden named Duncan who literally pulled me out of a huge mess I was in at Orzammar. The idea is for me to become a Grey Warden like himself. Personally I do not know a lot about the wardens, but Duncan has been telling some of their history. All I knew was that they occasionally would come from the surface and enter the Deep Roads to fight Dark Spawn to the death. I figured they were all nuts. Duncan is the first one I have actually seen or spoke to. He seems fairly sane to me anyway.

It was Duncan’s idea to write some things down. He tells me that there are few Dwarven Grey Wardens and that my perspective may be useful. That is a strange thought however, me being useful for something, to anyone, let alone the Grey Wardens. While I think that is unlikely to be of any help at least it has given me something to do.

Anyway I left Orzammar, leaving what little family and friends I had. I already miss my dear sister Rica, but she has convinced me that all is well with her and she will do fine. My mother Kalah I can definitely do without in my life so no loss there. My feelings for Leske, my true friend and partner in crime as need be, I will keep to myself.

I will be honest with you; the surface will take some getting used to. My first sight of the big sky took my breath away. And there is no echo. It makes any noise seem muted. The sun and clouds are so far away. It is now my first night out. The night sky looks like a large chasm with tiny firelights at the distant bottom. The moon is something you just have to see to believe. Unlike the sun that lights the sky during the day the moon you can actually look at. It is beautiful. The problem is I feel like I am hanging over the night sky by my feet ready to slip and fall in at any moment. That should explain to anyone seeing me now why I am currently tied to a tree. I also have a large rock I intend to keep on my lap while I sleep. You can not be too careful. I can tell Duncan thinks this a little odd, but he is polite enough not to say anything about it.

We are traveling to Ostagar, some old fort where there is an army gathered. There is also supposed to be a human king there. Can you image seeing an actual king? Course I doubt I would get the chance, but still.
