Just please teach me...are you moving the cam or you draw with hand? I tried to draw with my cam a lightsource but the outcome wasn't very good since the background was extremely blury and all speedy.

first, the camera needs to be steady - using a tripod would be best (i didn't have one, so i tried to steady the camera by resting my hand against my knee, while sitting on the ground). this will eliminate the blurry background. then, the light in this picture is made by a fire twirler (you can google "fire-dancing" for that) i hope this helps!

Sure did help...but one more thing..is it possible to capture this with the person whos doing this without being him blury?

burnchild In reply to mryannis [2012-03-07 10:57:26 +0000 UTC]

hardly, because for that, the person who's doing this will have to stand perfectly still, which is not really possible when he's rotating sticks that are on fire

But how is this done then? [link]

well, this is something quite different. what you linked is an example of light painting; in it, the singer probably stood still, while the "flasher" outlined the light painting job around his body. what i shot instead is a long exposure shot of the so-called "fire-dancing", where the man in the picture is also the man, who's making figures with the fire. i hope this is making sense

Yeah but why isn't the flasher all blury???

burnchild In reply to mryannis [2012-03-08 10:42:18 +0000 UTC]

i would guess that the flasher did the flashing, and in the end stood still for several seconds in the position, in which you see her in the photo. if you take a look at the EXIF information for that capture, the shutter speed was 23 seconds, so that gives enough time for painting the light outline, and then "freezing" in a position for several seconds, which would be the only position recorded in the photo.

I thought about that too, but how come then the cam didn't capture her "ghost" frames?

Hehe forget to think about that one ^^

But one guess is maybe its 2 same pictures compiled with layers...? Just saying my mind

burnchild In reply to mryannis [2012-03-09 23:43:36 +0000 UTC]

probably not, because the file has exif information, which means it's most likely an original file from the camera
