the real fun fact is that japanese do read backwards...

In japanese, his last name is made up of the characters night and god, which is pretty symbolic of his character. cant blame the authors because their "alphabet" is different, just like you wouldnt consider whether an english name means something funny in japanese, and backwards.
Plus, it gives us something to make fun of almighty Kira, muwahahaha
