Thanks! I have a bike fetish too. There are so many cool bikes in Tokyo. For example: lkazphoto.tumblr.com/post/6102…

that's a great shot, I especially love the shades and greenish colours... her gaze troubles me a bit - why is she looking so scared? Looks like you could write a good short-story about this picture ^^
I hope I will have the chance to visit that place someday in my life

Thank you very much! That fact that it can be interpreted in many ways through a story makes me very glad. I try to make photographs that are emotionally evocative but also leave some ambiguity.

Of everything in this shot, we're noticing the shoes. There's even a Birkenstock ad in the background.

burningmonk In reply to innactpro [2013-09-12 00:59:45 +0000 UTC]

That's a funny coincidence with the ad. But yeah, I noticed the shoes too. It's a detail that makes me like the photo.

I was intrigued by her expression, and then I saw she was wearing wedges.
Then I thought, "Girl, how can you ride a bike wearing those?"
I guess I'd look like that too if I had to wear those shoes.
But anyway, nice photo~! I like how it can tell a story if you have some imagination.

Haha. A lot of people commute on bikes and if she was heading out and wanted to look good, then there is not much choice.

it's common sight in bicycle-friendly places like amsterdam - high heels, flip-flops, wellingtons - if the roads aren't too bumpy it's quite ok to ride wearing anything... and i'll take a wild guess tokyo roads are rather decent

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

burningmonk In reply to noperson [2013-09-12 14:28:04 +0000 UTC]

Yeah the roads are good. I also see all kinds of shoes in Japan. The key thing her is that she must be a somewhat serious cyclist because she's on a single speed (probably fixed) bicycle. It's not as easy to ride as a typical bike.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

noperson In reply to burningmonk [2013-09-13 06:33:37 +0000 UTC]

ah yes true, but you know - they (fixies) are in fashion, and it's quite easy to make bikes 'look' like fixies without their actually being fixed - i've seen it many times. other than that - fixies are difficult to use if they have no brakes - here she has both front and back. yet still i also think she's serious about biking - otherwise she couldn't be riding wearing these shoes

burningmonk In reply to noperson [2013-09-14 00:25:30 +0000 UTC]

This is all true. Fixies are extremely popular here in Japan. So many damn hipsters!!

I guess that's true... But she could always carry a change of shoes in her bag! ^^
