Thank you! I enjoyed your critique: thorough, honest, and well argued.

You must have been there pretty early in the morning. I used to live in that area, (yeah, I know...) and it's surprising to see all the streets so clear.

Beautiful shot.

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? If you did not tell that it is a photograph i couldn't tell. Awesome!

Thanks! There is something about viewing the city from the rooftops. And of course there is a bit of post-production in this one due to the extreme contrast between the neon sign and the streets below.

That IS an interesting building center-of-photo. Industrial up top, traditional European down below. Buttresses I've not seen except on medieval cathedrals, done in modern materials. Whole thing oddly shaped to fit the street corner. Neighbors not any more normal in architecture. Next to a pretty hefty rail yard, so, I'm guessing there's industry nearby?

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 1

burningmonk In reply to runewuff [2016-08-01 16:15:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah that's a Japanese love hotel for you! They are often a random mishmash of various styles, designed to be as gaudy and eye-catching as possible. On the right is not a train yard but simply the various train lines that come out of Ikebukuro station. There are 3 lines here with 2 directions each, for a total of 6+ tracks. There is no industry as this is in the heart of the city.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

runewuff In reply to burningmonk [2016-08-03 02:16:56 +0000 UTC]

I stand corrected. That's a lot of train tracks though, in the states, where I live, normally something like that is by a factory. I forget Japan is passenger train heavy.

So how would it look in 4K Either here's something missing or you will be cropping this.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

burningmonk In reply to xs-deviant [2016-07-30 13:38:13 +0000 UTC]

4k just means the resolution. This picture is 1280x853. At 4k the resolution would be 3840x2560, so well suited as a wallpaper for very large screens. Maybe I should explain that more clearly.

Basically I'm selling it as a wallpaper for 70 points on DA.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

xs-deviant In reply to burningmonk [2016-07-30 13:45:07 +0000 UTC]

OK as you wrote so prominent 4K I was thinking of the standard en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4K_resol…

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

burningmonk In reply to xs-deviant [2016-07-31 03:44:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah that is what I'm talking about. In fact, it's mentioned in the wiki article you link:

"4K UHD is a resolution of 3840 pixels Γ— 2160 lines (8.3 megapixels , aspect ratio 16:9) and is one of the two resolutions of ultra high definition television targeted towards consumer television"

You can download this photo at a resolution of 3840x2160, which would be displayed without any upscaling on a 4k monitor. Hence why it would make a good wallpaper.

I'll make it more clear that it's the resolution I'm referring to.

xs-deviant In reply to burningmonk [2016-07-31 07:23:06 +0000 UTC]

That means that my original question remains as this image is 3:2 which is no 16:9. Ad ergo either something missing, or something to much. As you say the original is a 3:2 of 3840x2560 and you are offering it as a 16:9 of 3840x2160 you are cropping and the end result is not visible here.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

burningmonk In reply to xs-deviant [2016-08-01 04:55:34 +0000 UTC]

Ah sorry! I misunderstood the cropping question. Yeah, you are right. I cropped the high-res version to fit 16:9. I also realized I typed 2560 in my first comment and 2160 in my second one. The version on sale is 3840x2160. Do you think it's preferred to go with 3:2, 3840x2560?

The reason I crop it is because most monitors these days are 16:9 and I want to make sure the crop is at the best possible place and not arbitrarily in the center.

Sorry again for the confusion!

It doesn't matter really and for starters why not offer both formats in 1 file? Point was that now you can't see what you are buying
