"Mommy! Mommy!"

Nicole looked over as her twins came running into the living room in their pajamas, Argent's hands behind her back. "Hey!" she scolded gently, "I thought I told you two to go to bed! I even tucked you in and everything."

Argent pulled her arms out from behind her, revealing a book in one hand and then both hands as she held it out. "Story! Peeze?" She pleaded.

"Again? We read that earlier."

"Peeeeeeeeeeze!?" Nicholas shouted. "Pinoco! Peeeeeeze!?"

It was in that moment that Shard entered the living room. "What? I thought you two were in bed!"
He scooped Nicholas up into his arms and took a seat on the couch. "Goodness, you two are just persistent tonight!"

Nicole sighed, and then picked Argent up and placed her on the couch in between her and Shard. "Okay Argent. But after this, it's bedtime, okay?"

"YAY!" Argent jumped up and down on the couch before Shard pulled her back down into a sitting position.

"Okay..." Nicole took the book and opened it, grinning as Argent leaned over to look despite there being no pictures. "...The story of Pinocchio...The puppet who wanted to be a real boy."

"And he did!"

"SHHHHH!" Nicholas hissed to his sister. "I wanna wissin!"

Shard chuckled. "Keep going, Dear."

Nicole smiled at her husband. "...Once upon a time, there was a man named Geppetto...And he was all alone... Until one day his neighbor gave him a very special piece of wood..."

And here is my contest entry for #Shardcole2018 !

This year's theme was "Storytelling," and I immediately thought of the story of Pinocchio as a parallel to Shard and Nicole, two robots who are working to acting more real and organic.

What better story to read to their two children?
