Johnny Cash.comission I did for a silent auction. They specifically requested Johnny, but left the actual subject matter and style up to me... which is how i like my commissions- specifically vague.
gives you the creative freedom without leaving you wondering too much. waded through tonnes of pics from every era of his life and waffled from the iconic shots to performance shots quite a bit. Then I saw this one, Johnny Cash mid career, a man in his prime. made some mistakes and learned a few things, suffered, triumphed... and its all there in his eyes. simple is best some times. 22" x 15" charcoal on stonehenge. Enjoy.
update- this did really well at the auction and ended up going for 3 times its listed value and raised over 1200.00 for the charity!

Met him. When I was in the hospital on Kadena Airbase, Okinawa [1968]. Only "Famous" person I have ever met. He was stoned.. but then, so was I. I think we connected.
Anyway...
As always, a remarkably accurate rendition of the man. Not only in his look, but his persona as well.

well, if you are going to meet a "famous" person, he is a good one. thats a cool connection. "stoned in Okinawa in '68 with Johnny Cash." is an excellent footnote of an interesting life.
