Description
One of the reasons that I started blacksmithing was to replicate antique bladed weapons that I could not afford at such a young age. As I grew older, I was fortunate enough to buy a few originals, I got a little better at making my own versions and repairing some that people had damaged. These two Japanese antiques are recent auction wins, the Tanto needs some work on the handle, the blade will be polished, which will also sharpen it as I work and a new wood scabbard (I will spare you all the Japanese names for these as no one I know speaks Japanese anyway). The Yari spear need a full mounting, polished and the makers name translated. I didn't realize it was signed until it arrived. That adds value to a collector, it just made me smile. I am not a true collector, I mostly grab low hanging fruit, repair and sell. Anyway, rough guess until I can spend some time on these is late 1700-early 1800's. Enjoy.
