When you look at this painting, your attention is immediately drawn to the eyes, due to them being the brightest thing on the piece- contrasting against the dark reds and greys. In some cases, this could be distracting and annoying, but in this piece, it's a wonderful thing. The eyes are beautifully shaded and designed, almost setting the feel for the whole piece. The blood designs sometimes blend into the red fur designs(?) causing the "battle wounded" feel to lose a bit of its effect to a quick glance. I get the feeling the ears should face forward(generally varies between species and the circumstances.) and the beautiful shading and fur detailing I saw throughout the rest of the fur isn't there on the ears. Finally, this may just be my problem, but it seems too dark. I know this sets the tone of the piece, and shadowing can be very good in some cases– but in moderation. On my phone screen, and my dark monitor, it's hard to make out some of the details. (Especially in the bottom left corner.) All in all, I love this piece and I hope to see more with this skill!
