Well, we have short but hot summers and long winters. But without noteable extremes.

Bleiben wir bei Frühling. Die Schneegrenze liegt derzeit bei etwa 1500 Metern, wie du beim Berg gegenüber sehen kannst.

Die Jahreszeiten-bedingten Schnee-höhen sind auch ein Mysterium für mich

Natürlich.  Die Temperatur sinkt mit zunehmender Höhe, damit auch die Frostgrenze. Der Nachtfrost in den Bergen spielt eine Rolle, genauso wie die größeren Schneemengen. Im August kann dann die Frostgrenze über 3000 meter steigen.

Also manchmal bis an die "very" Gipfelspitzen und manchmal bleiben
die höchsten Gipfel aber das ganze Jahr mit Schnee bedeckt, richtig?

Ja richtig. Der Schnee der über den Sommer liegenbleibt verdichtet sich zu Gletschereis.
