Nothing I like more than a good template! Here's an updated version of Domino! If you're interested in having one for yourself, check out my Market Stall at Arcadia Academy arcadiaacademy.net/forum/marke… .
Domino Swindon Origin & Influences: The game of dominoes, identified by their black and white tiles, can be traced to Celtic origins where tiles were often carved from boar ivory. The surname Swindon has Gaelic roots and means 'Pig Hill' While Domino's background comes from the tale of the Three Little Pigs (and a dash of Animal Farm thrown in, her semblance derives from the Chinese Zodiac where the sign of the pig is rooted in the Water sign and the month of the Pig heralds the start of winter, hence an inclination towards ice and mist.
Nicknames: Piglet, Porkchop, Hammy, Bacon Butt… And any number of bad puns used teasingly which she haaates.
Colour: Ivory, off-white
Symbol: Stylized tribal boar.
Age: Seventeen, although chubby cheeks gives her a bit of a baby face.
Species: Domino is a pig faunus, manifesting in floppy, bristling white ears, snub nose, slight underbite and heterochroma eyes- a common sight in pigs. She was also born with a balding ropy tail but her parents had her docked to make her easier to hide when times were tougher for the Swindon family. You can even see the slight notch at the base of her left ear where they tried to finish the job but couldn't go through with mutilating their baby girl even if it meant her life might be easier disguised as human.
As a pig faunus her hearing is above average but her vision is shocking, with poor depth perception due to her blue eye being worse than her brown and often squeezes one eye shut to get a better look at things. She's jumpy around deep shadows which look like gaping holes to her. She makes up for it with a sense of smell that borders on the uncanny. She starts her day with a great big sniff, “Today smells lucky!” tends to be right on the money, but worse are the more cryptic ones. “Ug, today smells like dry river pebbles. Watch your step.” Forget second sight, this girl’s second smell is more than enough.
Personality: Domino is a shameless liar, a big mouth who never lets the truth get in the way of a good story especially if it's about herself. She's a braggart and a story topper, and if she went to your funeral you'd bet she'd spend the eulogy telling the story of how she would have died better.
She has a pragmatic view of the truth, only telling it when she can't think of anything more interesting and likes to spin a tale just to see how far it goes. She's often convincing, speaking with just the right words, tones and a confidence that could bend iron bars. While she doesn’t use her silver tongue maliciously, she’s just selfish enough to twist words to get her own way. Usually to get food, she’s a greedy pig when it comes to sweets and to everyone’s horror, pork buns.
Her constant lying is a symptom of low self esteem, leading her to angrily defend her ridiculous trumpeting. She hates being called out on her lies, that spoils the fun and will go to long lengths to uphold her boasting- personal safety be damned. Rash and reckless, she leaps into the fray cackling with Hail-Bop blurring around her head, and few enemies expect the tiny figure to charge in at knee height squealing like a banshee.
For that reason her fellow students put up with her for the same reason they watch a drunk with fireworks; because he might hurt himself… or do something really funny. Most can't wait to tell her to shut her loud, obnoxious gob. What friends manage to put up with her know to take her with a with a grain of salt but feel she's immature and untrustworthy with responsibility.
The pig faunus is also known for her vague intuition, ‘The nose knows,’ she says and means. Unfortunately her constant lying means others rarely believe her and hindsight is 20/20.
Appearance: Domino wears her Faunus status proudly, and hides it only when forced. Her short and stocky build belies a tremendous strength, much like her pig heritage. She wears her bristled white ears freely and a toothy grin bears tusk like canines matching her twinkling heterochromatic eyes. Domino's name is reflected in her flaxen coloured hair, bound in hasty piggy tails, contrasting with her olive coloured skin.
Affiliation: Unable to attend the more prestigious Hunter Schools, Arcadia was her last hope and she defends it with a passion and will beat down on anyone who thinks of slagging it off. It’s her chance to be someone, to stand out and be recognised, not just but by the world but also by her family.
Backstory: Domino’s father is a successful Faunus Rights lobbyist. Her mother a charitable socialite. Her fifteen year old sister is an accomplished flautist who already has offers from professional orchestra’s. Her eleven year old sister graduated high school the same year she did and is busy fending of university recruitment… All incredible considering they’re a family of pig faunus in part that could be considered the Arizona of Vytal. You have to be incredible to be noticed.
Domino however is the black sheep; barely mediocre at everything she touched. The only thing she was better at was aura control, mastering her semblance by the time she was twelve in an effort to get out of washing up. She thought being a hunter was her calling, except there was no way her family could afford proper tuition or the travel expenses for a school in the more accepting parts of the world. So she gave up, spending her days bludging on the couch, part times jobs and generally pigging out… until one day…
Quotes: “Today smells lucky!”
“Are you going to finish that?”
“Reminds me of the time I…”
“Yeah way! It happened to my cousin's best friend!”
Theme Song:
This Old Sow
Playing Notes: Domino is often unlikeable, obnoxious and irritating so don't be afraid to play her as such because I won't take offense. She doesn't shut up and loves to overshadow your OC with tales of awesomeness. She takes all challenges and sulks when she loses. While your OC may be fooled the first time by her tales get away from her, but don't be afraid to expose her for the lying tit she is.
Hunting Weapon: What first began as improvising yoyos as weapons, Hail-Bop evolved into clever unfurling balls on chains engineered by Jeane Carpenter. Unable to afford refined dust, she instead stores chunks of the uncut ore stored inside. Such chunks are slow reacting, and once committed her Aura reacts, condensing water drawn from her Semblance and freezing it around the balls including thick, impaling icicles that pack a heavy wallop when whizzing through the air.
Once she drawn enough energy from her dust chunks, her aura flares out and snap freezes Hail-Bop into a single, bar-bell like staff and whirs through the enemy ranks like helicopter blades. Worse yet, acting on a catalyst she fires and regrows the icicles and explosively propels them, foot long lances that shatter like shrapnel.
Aura and Semblance: Domino’s aura reveals slowly, gathering strength as she does. First as the faint glitter like dew in the air around her before flowing out from her feet and upwards like a curling silver mist. From this her Semblance manifests; Mirage. She is able to pull moisture from the air and refract the light around her giving her an intangible, aqueous quality that is almost but not quite invisibility. In high moisture situations she extends this power to thicken the water to the point of a pea-soup mist, also aiding her in battle.
The main limitation to her Semblance is there must be atmospheric moisture. This seems easy as they live by the ocean and swamplands but on hot days, or climate controlled buildings its effectiveness is limited.
Fighting Style: While she may be short, some skinny little waif she isn’t. Domino is crazy strong and when her temper flares she’s been known to lift tables in the heat of the moment. Unfortunately her semblance and full on fighting style takes time to build to full strength and so relies on stamina and avoiding blow until she can effectively fight back. She shoves, weaves and goes in low, spinning and pivoting and using aikido like motions to wear her enemy down. She tries conserve strength and keep her Hail-Bop Meteor Hammers in constant motion. It is in this period that she’s most vulnerable and relies on others to keep her safe.
However once her semblance has gathered enough water and catalysed her dust ore, the fight begins. She swings her enormous icy hammers where only the word ‘smite’ seems appropriate, crashing into opponents and shattering, leaving shards like knives embedded deep in the flesh. If she still has enough aura and dust, her hammers form long icicles and with a forced blast she send them rocketing out and pinning like arrows.
