Edinburgh (Listeni/ˈɛdɪnbʌrə/; Scottish Gaelic: Dùn Èideann) is the capital city of Scotland, situated on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth which is the area where the River Forth flows into the North Sea. With a population of 482,640 in 2012, it is the largest settlement in the Lothians, a region of the Lowlands, and is situated at the eastern end of the Central Belt.
