The reasoning for the flower is that the "Jacob's Ladder" also represents the story that shares the same name. Based on the flowers appearance it's leaves appear as if it's a sort of ladder, but based on how I drew it it doesn't look like it at all LMFAO . Finally something I could draw for myself but--Drawing Rubin was a frEAKING PAIN . AND YES, THAT IS A SKETCH THAT I CLEANED UP . MY COLOURING KEEPS ON CHANGING AND I JUST-- HKJFADHFDAKL I'll go make a proper ref of her outfit later-- I promise I'll do commissions now CRIES

Anyways story behind this is that her parents are religious and strict people, they want Rubin to be more... obedient ? And so they sent her to some place where it's full of priests and priestesses where she could like.... meet her parents expectations. Of course, Rubin doesn't like it at all, she grows to become homesick and she begins to miss her friends and all at school-- basically it's a negative event for herself.
