Here we have Melody on a dive and finds a rock, but noticed something on it.

As she has little idea that it was a fossil. But this fossil will eventually lead to a groundbreaking discovery in natural history.

In over a century time, the fossil discovery will truly announce to the world in the year, 1999.

The fossil is Haikouichthys. It’s the size of her thumbnail, but it’s an evolutionary giant.

The first ever fish. Her earliest known ancestor.

A relic dating back more than 500 million years ago. Long before even the dinosaurs.

It’s unique because instead of having armor on the outside, it’s tough inside.

They’ve evolved a primitive backbone.

They’re the very first vertebrate.

Forerunner of all future backbones animals, from the dinosaur, to the elephant, to us.
