Description Back when I started my first shirt series at Saga Shirts ( [link] ) I concentrated on taking recognizable symbols - many of them modern - and composing them out of dense thickets of Celtic knotwork. I really liked the results, but I found that it was a pretty narrow vein to mine. There weren't a whole lot of other symbols that fit the bill.

But here's one I didn't do then, and have wanted to do all along - the Peace symbol. think of this as that point where the 1960's collide with the 960's. Not that there was any sort of peace movement in the tenth century, mind you. But if you'd been a medieval monk hunched over his illuminated manuscript just when the Vikings (or your neighbors) came over the hill with torches*, you'd have found that there were worse things to wish for. And illuminate. Pretty much as it is today.

*Contrary to what you may think, medieval Irish records show that more churches were burned by Irishmen than by Vikings. Not that the Vikings didn't do it with a lot of style.

I'll comment here as this was the first of your work I've seen, and it seems like the peace..ahem...piece...has some historic significance in your work.
I'll have to stop* experimenting with Celtic knot work now, as you're obviously mastered it. Beautiful.

"Be a Viking: pillage in style."

* This won't happen.

What a great idea! Have you tried doing a yin-yang symbol? That would be awesome. Or even something strange such as the Nike swish symbol! I think folks would eat that stuff up. Great work ... I just love your designs. Thanks so much for sharing.

Nice design.

Only one question: why do each 'arm' of the symbol as separate designs? I'm sure you could have done it with the arms all joined together through the centre.

Lovely work, I like the colors, and the soft tan background as well. A beautiful execution of the concept.

Did you ever try a knotwork Yin-Yang?

Very nice! I got into calligraphy awhile back, and my Dad keeps trying to tell me that illumination is where it's REALLY at, buuuut I don't think I have the time or patience for it yet. I'm glad someone does, I love knotwork! Especially that one in the center... :}
